Christmas in Dagestan

Today we will get acquainted with the business card of Dagestan — the Sulak Canyon.

A speedboat ride through the largest reservoir in the North Caucasus will provide you with vivid emotions.  

The famous green ribbon of the Sulak Canyon, winding between the narrow rocks, sparkling in the sun, carries its waters from the Chirkeyskaya hydroelectric dam to the Miatlinskaya dam. 

From the observation deck of the village of Dubki you will have a view of its most spectacular bends.

Lunch will be held in the cafe "On Rahat", where you will be served freshly caught trout fried on coals to a crisp (it is possible to replace the main dish on request with chicken kebab), tender chudu, vegetable and cheese cuts, fragrant tea, bread.

Transfer to the Nohyo caves.

Tunnels in the mountains were cut in the 70s of the last century during the construction of the arched dam of the Miatlinskaya HPP. 

The total length of the labyrinths was several hundred meters. 

One of the caves is located on the left bank of the river, two on the right. 

They were connected by a suspension bridge located at an altitude of 60 meters. 

For fans of extreme recreation, there is a zipline along which you can descend from a height of 250 meters, a bungee jump and a climbing trail.

On the third day of our adventure, we will go to a high-altitude lake, bound by strong ice. 

Mochokh is often compared to Lake Baikal, because the ice here is so transparent that you can see the fish scurrying under it! 

There is no more picturesque place to skate and enjoy the fresh mountain air.

Having rolled enough, we will go for lunch to the village of Gonokh, where we will get acquainted with the Avar cuisine: khinkal, chudu with different fillings, pilaf or cabbage rolls, tea, compote.

After a hearty lunch, we will go to meet the beauties of the Hunzan district: we will explore the snow-capped Tsolotl Canyon and, of course, its mighty Tobot waterfall. 

In winter, the water stream freezes and turns into an ice sculpture. 

At the same time, crystal water does not stop running under the icy crust — magic!

Let's start our day with the Lun ekranoplane, the most modern landmark in ancient Derbent.

The Bronze Age city of Derbent became the "Caspian Gate" already in the IV century BC. 

The walls of the ancient citadel of Naryn-Kala testify to the rich historical past of Dagestan.

The ancient city of Derbent — "Magaly"

Magal is a small area of the ancient eastern city, centered around a mosque. 

There are 9 magals in Derbent. 

All of them are located in the mountainous part of the city inside the stone walls of the Derbent fortress, below the Naryn-Kala citadel. 

This place is called the "Old Town".

The Juma Mosque is an ancient shrine where you can feel all the greatness of this place and find spiritual peace.

In 733, one mosque was built in each of the 7 magals of Derbent, along with one large mosque for the general Friday prayer.

The museum complex "Maiden and Women's Baths" is located in the old part of Derbent, not far from the oldest mosque in Russia, the Juma Mosque. 

Actually, it was here that the girls were washed before the marriage ceremony (external examination).

Next, we will walk along the most expensive street in Russia — Mammadbekov, which leads to the Crystal Bridge and the park with the Nizami fountain. 

After walking a lot and walking along the local Arbat "Street of Happy People" we go for lunch.

Lunch will be held at the Ethno-House, where we will try traditional cuisine: soup, spelt or shah pilaf, dolma, chudu, vegetable and cheese cuts, bread, compote, tea.

And at the end of the day, we will look at the local market, where we will buy gifts for family and friends.

Happy and rested, we go to the airport.
