HIKING CAMP. Walking tour of the Kaliningrad region

We have breakfast in the complex.

Today we will go to the Baltic Spit.

An exciting journey awaits us along the narrow strip of land between the Baltic Sea and the Kaliningrad Bay, which is still unexplored by most tourists.

We leave for Baltiysk, the base of the Russian Navy and the westernmost city in Russia.

After a short walk along the embankment, where we will definitely see warships, a whole ensemble of historical publications and the famous lighthouse of the 19th century, we will cross to Baltkosa.

Upon arrival, we will visit a small museum where the locals will introduce us to the living history of this secluded place, which was closed to the public until the mid-90s.

Our walking route will start from the Southern Pier, the westernmost point of Russia.

Next, enjoying the tranquility and splendor of the panoramas of the sea and the bay, we will visit the most secret corners of the Baltic Spit.

High sand dunes, curved pine groves, ruins of ancient military fortifications and sunken ships - a variety of landscapes of the Baltic Spit will make the walk fascinating and interesting.

After lunch, we return to Baltiysk, transfer to the bus and leave for Kaliningrad.

After the rest, we will have an ideal acquaintance with Konigsberg – a walk through the winding streets of the ancient district of Amallienau.

You will learn all the intricacies of the history of these places: how the garden city was built, what secrets are kept behind the clinker brick walls and why this oasis survived the war.

After the tour, we return to the complex for dinner.

Walking route along the Baltic Spit:

• Length ~ 10 km
• Maximum lift up to 40 m

We have breakfast and drive out to the picturesque Balga Peninsula.

Projecting deep into the Kaliningrad Bay, it is famous not only for its beautiful nature, but also for its ancient history. 

According to legend, back in the 5th century there was a fortress Honede, built by the Prussians for their king Videvut.

Today, these are extensive hunting and fishing grounds, hiding the ruins of one of the most famous castles of the Teutonic Order and the remains of ancient fishing villages.

Before starting the route, we will visit the local museum, where researchers who have spent many years studying Balga will introduce us to the fascinating history of this place.

Our walking journey will begin with a beautiful cobblestone road leading into the forest and smoothly flowing into many trails with a wide variety of landscapes.

There is a real fairy tale ahead: ancient forests, blooming fields, high cliffs and secret paths through tall reeds. We do not recommend hiding your cameras far away.

Rest stops, lunch and viewing platforms will make the trip not only interesting, but also comfortable.

We will return in the evening, have dinner and relax in the sauna after a busy day.

Balga Peninsula Walking Tour:

• Maximum lift up to 30 m

We have breakfast at the complex.

We are going to the area of the Lower German lowland, which is almost 1.5 meters below the level of the World Ocean.

Despite its small area, about 3,000 square kilometers, it is one of the largest lowlands in the world, and a huge number of picturesque reservoirs turn its entire territory into a real Kaliningrad Venice.

These are the only polder lands in Russia, the water regime of which is regulated artificially by means of a complex system of dams, canals and water pumping stations. 

Houses hidden in dense forests or located on the banks of canals may not have access roads, but they do have berths.

Locals almost do not use cars, but every family has a boat - people use them to go to the district center, to visit each other, to hunt or fish.  

An exciting hike along the forgotten Prussian highway and lime alleys along numerous rivers, lakes and streams awaits us.

All day we will enjoy the beautiful nature listening to the birds singing, and if we are lucky, we will watch the moose, which can still be found in the local alder forests.

We will have lunch on the route and after a short rest, take the bus to the old German school. 

Here we will plunge into the authentic atmosphere of the 19th century, get acquainted with the life of the Prussian village and find out what rural education was like in the distant past.

By dinner, we will return to the complex, play board games and share our impressions of the day.

Kaliningrad Venice Walking Route:

• Length ~ 10 km
• Maximum lift up to 10 m

After an early breakfast, we leave for the very east of the Kaliningrad region.

Today we will spend the whole day in the protected forests of the Romintenskaya Pushcha.

Ancient hunting trails have become excellent hiking trails that stretch through the magnificent landscapes of a huge natural park, known since the time of the Teutonic Order.

No place in the Kaliningrad region will be able to compete in beauty with Rominta.

It is so diverse that it will easily surprise even an experienced traveler, and our guides will tell you a lot of interesting things about the history of these places.

Once here, you will be transported thousands of years into the past and get a real pleasure from unity with nature and acquaintance with rare species of plants and animals.

Along the trails of the huntsmen and the forgotten cobblestone alleys, we will walk through beautiful mixed forests, along blooming fields and undulating hills, which offer breathtaking panoramas of the purest glacial lakes.

Climbing one of the peaks, we will find ourselves at the highest point of the Kaliningrad region.

In the middle of the route, we will have a picnic on the shore of a lake that is older than the Baltic Sea.

In the evening we will reach one of the forest farms, where we will be offered a dinner of traditional dishes of the Vishtynets upland.

Before leaving, we will visit the highest railway bridge in the Kaliningrad region, built at the beginning of the XX century, and take great photos.

We will return to Kaliningrad late in the evening.

Walking route through Romintenskaya Pushcha:

• Length ~ 15 km
• Maximum lift up to 230 m

We gather and say goodbye.

The perfect day to relax after a hyper-saturated weekend!

And if there is energy left, you can go for souvenirs, go to the sea again or take a walk around the city on your own.
