Itinerary

  • Day 1 - Rafting on the Yanisjoki River and Mount Paaso

The journey starts in Sortavala, where you need to get to on your own on the first day of the program.

We recommend purchasing tickets for train No. 160B upon arrival in Sortavala at 08:25.

After meeting at the train station, you will have breakfast in a cafe and go to the beginning of the route on the Janisjoki River.

There is a selection of equipment, instruction and a busy water route ahead. During the rafting, you will overcome several thresholds of difficulty categories 2 and 3, see Finnish hydroelectric power plants and picturesque canyons (the length of the rafting is 4-6 km, 2-3 hours).

After the rafting, you will have a picnic lunch.

In the afternoon, you will enjoy a walk on Mount Paaso, an ancient settlement inhabited by Karelians in the 12th and 13th centuries.

In the evening, you will reach the pier on the shore of Lake Ladoga, from where you will be transferred by motorboat to the island, located in the very center of the Ladoga skerries.

You will stay in the geo-domes and dine on Karelian cuisine.

You will spend the night in cozy hemispherical tents surrounded by a pine forest.

*Due to weather conditions, the days may change places in the program.
