On the shore of the Gulf of Finland, ten kilometers west of Peterhof, there is the Oranienbaum, a palace and park ensemble in Lomonosov, a satellite city of St. Petersburg. The residence of the all–powerful A.D. Menshikov, Grand Duke Peter Fedorovich – Emperor Peter III, Catherine II, and then members of the royal family is a wonderful palace and park ensemble, the uniqueness of which lies in the fact that this is the only complex of palaces and parks of the 18th century that has come down to us unchanged, because it was not occupied fascists during the Great Patriotic War.
We will drive with you along the Peterhof road – the ceremonial "perspektiva" of imperial residences, grand ducal estates and dachas, take a walk through Oranienbaum Park, where there are no cascades and fountains, but there is a "charming system of terraces elegantly descending to the stalls in front of the sea and whimsically playing with the winding lines of their railings", we will visit the Bolshoy Menshikov Palace with an excursion.

The tour was well-organized, and the preloaded transit card included in the package was incredibly useful—such a great idea! However, unfortunately, in my case, there was no mention of it anywhere—not on the envelope with the vouchers, nor in the printed tour program. It also wasn’t brought up in my communication with the manager. As a result, we had to figure out on our own what the card was and how to use it. We only realized later that it already had money loaded onto it—when we happened to use it. Luckily, we traveled around the city a lot, so the balance on the card was put to good use. That being said, to be fair, I should note that other tour participants mentioned they did receive this information on their envelope and that their manager informed them about it when sending the tour details.
