A trip to Gatchina and Tsarskoye Selo is a great way to get to know the two most significant and beautiful palace and park ensembles of the suburbs of St. Petersburg.
Gatchina bus tour "The Mysterious Emperor Paul I"
The history of the Gatchina Palace and Park complex began in 1765, when Catherine II donated these lands to her favorite, Count Grigory Orlov. The palace was built by architect Antonio Rinaldi in the style of a medieval castle.
In 1783, after the death of Count G.G. Orlov, Empress Catherine II presented Gatchina to her son, Grand Duke Pavel Petrovich, the future Emperor Pavel I.
He transformed Gatchina in accordance with his ideas of an ideal state. In 1881, Alexander III and his family settled in Gatchina for 13 years. The emperor was very fond of Gatchina and annually allocated considerable funds for the development of the city. As a result, Gatchina has become an exemplary palace city.

The Yusupov Palace is one of the rare mansions where not only the main halls, but also the private chambers of the owners have survived. The appearance of the palace reflected both the Oriental origin of the owners, as well as the delicate taste and unlimited financial possibilities.
In addition to the state halls where the Yusupovs hosted their annual balls, you will visit the music room, the living room of Henry II, the prince's study with a library, the Moorish Living Room, as well as the Rasputin Murder exhibition, which reconstructs the events of the last hours of the life of one of the most mysterious characters in Russian history.
