The oldest royal residence near St. Petersburg, known worldwide as the "Kingdom of Fountains", was built over two centuries by the efforts of many outstanding Russian and European architects. And even in winter, when the park stalls and flower beds are covered with snow, water cannons are inactive, and the sculpture of the Grand Cascade is carefully sheltered from frost, Peterhof offers guests to explore the palaces of the former royal residence, the main of which is the Grand Palace. Almost completely destroyed during the Great Patriotic War, the palace was restored in the post-war decades, and today its interiors show visitors the Oak Staircase and the Oak Study of Peter with carved panels of the early 17th century, the suite of state rooms of architect Rastrelli, the Chinese offices of Vallen-Delamot, the Dining Room, Throne and Chesma halls of Felten.
