Itinerary

Day 1 - Visit to Tikhvin Assumption Monastery. Ustyuzhne city tour
07:00 Departure from the metro station "Dybenko Street".
Transfer to Tikhvin. Visit to Tikhvin Assumption Monastery.
The monastery, built by decree of Ivan the Terrible, preserves the shrine of the Russian Orthodox Church – the icon of the Tikhvin Mother of God Hodegetria. We will be able to visit the monastery and admire its buildings.
Transfer to Ustyuzhna. Short sightseeing tour of the city.
It is believed that the officials of this particular town served as prototypes for the famous “Inspector General” Gogol.
You will see the Kazan Church, which was built by order of merchant Grigory Stroganov with an amazing tent bell tower, famous white stone carvings around the windows and preserved frescoes of the 17th century.
Lunch in a cozy cafe “At the Mayor's” according to the recipes of the XIX century.
Just as in Gogol's play, the mayor invited the “Petersburg official” to a sumptuous dinner, so we invite you to taste Russian cuisine prepared according to special recipes. Transfer to Vologda.

Day 3 - Vologda city tour. Visit to the company store "Crafts of Vologda region" with tasting
Late breakfast at the hotel.
A large sightseeing tour of Vologda from a local historian. During the tour, we will learn how the historical center of Vologda was built up and changed from century to century.
We will see ensembles of three squares: the Kremlin, the Revolution and the Soviet, get acquainted with the architecture of Vologda of the XVI-XX centuries, including monuments of wooden and stone architecture and solemn Vologda temples.
Along the way, we will hear stories about famous people who were born and lived in this wonderful city, and get acquainted with the Spaso-Prilutsky Monastery.
Lunch according to Vologda recipes.
A real feast awaits you with dishes prepared according to ancient Vologda recipes. Today you have to try what people ate in Ancient Russia in Vologda land!

Guided tour of the Lace Museum. The Vologda Lace Museum is a world of beauty and harmony of Vologda lace, woven by the skillful hands of lace makers, a fairy tale come to life, where you want to return again and again.
The museum is located in the building of the 19th-century city estate, which is an object of cultural heritage. The main exhibition is devoted to the development of the Vologda region's traditional arts and crafts and global trends in lace-making from the end of the 19th century to the beginning of the 21st century.
Transfer from Vologda to Sizma.
An entertaining folklore program.
The village of Sizma is an amazing, original place where the cultural traditions of the Vologda Region have been reviving for many years. The objects collected from the surrounding villages made it possible to create cute village museums of peasant life, flax, bread, and village history.
During the numerous expeditions of the local "Center of Traditional Culture", interesting stories about the traditions and customs of the Sizem region were recorded, interesting recipes, songs, and games were collected. We are waiting for a walk through the village, a visit to a peasant hut, museums and a master class.

I'm so glad I chose the 'Across the Expanses of Perm the Great' tour in July 2024. It was a high-quality, engaging, and thoughtfully designed journey through the entire Perm region. The trip was full of fascinating discoveries: ancient monasteries, unique museums, the distinctive Permian animal style and wooden deities, the history of salt production and the Stroganovs in the Urals, and much more. The natural beauty of Parma was breathtaking: dense forests, countless rivers, mountains, and even an ice cave. The hotels were comfortable, and the breakfasts and lunches were tasty, often featuring elements of local cuisine. Traveling in a small group made the experience even more enjoyable, after all, it's usually seasoned travelers who venture to the Perm region. One special moment was when we all got to bake and taste traditional gingerbread made from an old recipe, for many of us, it was a first. Huge thanks to our amazing guide, Andrey, and to Venaris, our incredibly skilled driver!
