Itinerary

  • Day 1 - Arrival in Gorno-Altaysk

    Meeting of the group at the airport in Gorno-Altaysk from 9:00 to 10:30.

    Transfer to Askat village, Chemal district, RA. 

    Check in to the cabins at the base, surrounded on all sides by picturesque mountain ranges. 

    The beautiful Katun River is within walking distance.

    Askat village is famous for the presence of craftsmen of various crafts: pottery, leather making, painting, painting and wood carving, etc. 

    After a short rest, a sightseeing tour of the "Legends of Chemal", during which we will visit the island of Patmos, passing over the suspension bridge over the Katun to the church of John the Theologian; Chemalskaya HPP – the oldest hydroelectric power plant in Altai, the confluence of the Chemal and Katun rivers.

    Patmos is a small island with steep rocky slopes on the Katun River, on which the Orthodox Church of St. John the Theologian is located. 

    At the moment, the temple is an active women's monastery, where services are held, at the same time it is available for everyone to visit. 

    In the evening, we will take a short tour of the village of Askat: climb Mount Menzhelik, go down to the rock "Marble", walking along the shore of Katun.

The Irbis campsite is located on the territory of the picturesque village of Aktash. The guest houses offer views of the river on one side and the mountains on the other.

There are sleeping places in the rooms. The complex has free internet access, which will allow guests to stay in touch around the clock. Guests can relax on the outdoor equipped terrace.

You can cook lunch on your own, in the common kitchen; an alternative option is the cafe "Caravan" within walking distance from the campsite.
