Itinerary

Day 1 - Flight from Cape Town to Antarctica
The flight from Cape Town to Antarctica will take about 5.5 hours.
All our expeditions take place aboard Ultima Antarctic Logistics flights, which serve the scientific research programs of several countries in Antarctica.
After landing on the ice runway of Novo Airbase, you will immediately go to the camp.
Located about 12 km (30 minutes drive from Novo Airbase), Ultima Oasis Camp is an oasis of comfort, cozy warmth and excellent service.
The first thing that catches your eye after arriving at the camp is the magnificent views to the east, to the sheltered ice valley and the pristine lake under the amphitheater of rocky nunataks.
A small group of like-minded people creates an extraordinary polar adventure among the beautiful, protected oasis of Schirmacher, where our camp is located.

From the second to the seventh day of the tour, you will devote yourself to activities around the camp, conquering the South Pole and visiting the colony of emperor penguins.
The future program of our expedition depends entirely on the weather conditions.

On one of the most favorable days, you will fly to a remote and inaccessible colony of emperor penguins, where they spend the early Antarctic summer.
A short walk will take us to the largest of all penguins on Earth, reaching 122 cm in height and 40 kg in weight, the size of a small person.
The colony consists of fluffy chicks waiting for their parents to return from the ocean with fresh food, couples reuniting with each other and cuddling up to each other for warmth or occasionally basking in the Antarctic sun.

On one of the favorable days, you will set off on a flight to the Geographical South Pole.
More than a hundred years have passed since the last expedition of Captain Robert Falcon Scott reached the Geographical South Pole.
There are no signs of life on this remote continent, high on the Antarctic plateau. Birds don't fly that far south.
Animals have not visited the South Pole since the days of explorers, when dogs were a means of transporting equipment and food. However, people are a different matter.
For you, adventurers, there is an opportunity to visit the geographical South Pole.

Standing at the geographic South Pole at latitude 90 degrees is just as important for anyone today as it was for Scott and his people many years ago.
You will return with a wonderful adventure story and cherished memories.

On the way back, we will make a stop at our expedition camp on FD83, where we will arrange an overnight stay in tents, keep warm in polar sleeping bags while our pilots rest.

On other days, free from flights to the penguin colony and the South Pole, we offer a variety of active adventures from our camp.
Recreational opportunities around the camp include several guided hikes or short, relaxing walks up the cliffs of the nunatak or to the edge of a mesmerizing continental ice shelf with magnificent views of the endless ice.
Our adventurers can even enjoy an invigorating sauna and ice bath after a day of exploring.
The stunning wooden terraces in front of the houses offer a unique environment for contemplation under the Antarctic sun.
During each outing from the Ultima Oasis camp, safety is of the utmost importance, and the guides carefully equip the guests with the appropriate equipment.

Ultima Oasis Camp consists of three beautifully furnished wooden cabins with rooms of different categories that can accommodate couples, families or groups, depending on your preferences and availability.

The bathrooms are shared by all rooms and are kept in immaculate condition.

A separate room for the dining area and living room will be an excellent place for joint dinners and evening conversations over a glass of the best South African wines.

The panoramic bay windows constantly beckon with magnificent views, illuminated by the never-setting sun, while you relax and recover from the day's adventures.

It's important to know

Our winter sportswear is well suited to the climatic conditions during most of our travels. Thermal underwear, wind and waterproof clothing, and rubber boots will become a reliable foundation for your comfort in the polar regions.

Layering in clothing is the most important thing in Arctic expeditions. It is better to wear several light garments than one very warm one. This will help you optimally adapt to temperature changes: it is always easier to take off a layer of clothing if you feel hot, or put on something else if it gets chilly.

The base layer. Choose thermal underwear made of merino wool or polypropylene, depending on the temperature of the region and the planned activity level.
The middle layer. Wool or fleece sweaters, longsleeves, turtlenecks to create layers of clothing. The middle layers can be worn under a parka.
The top layer. Windproof and waterproof parka and trousers. The park can be single-layered (insulated with protection from wind and water) or double-layered (consisting of a warm layer and an upper wind and water protection layer).
Shoes and accessories. Rubber boots (regular or insulated) are the most suitable option for expeditions. Bring several pairs of gloves/mittens (1 light, 1 warm waterproof, 1 spare), a hat, scarf/ buff, several pairs of warm (for example, wool) and regular socks.
