It's important to know

Personal equipment you need for the tour

Clothes

  1. Waterproof and windproof jacket — no need to take it with you. You will be presented with a branded park.
  2. Waterproof trousers are one of the most important items on the list of things. They are necessary for boat landings and for land walks (Gore-Tex and similar fabrics are preferred — they are both waterproof and breathable). Wear them over your regular trousers. For environmental reasons, it is strongly recommended to purchase waterproof trousers without Velcro fasteners at the ankles and backpacks without mesh inserts.
  3. Thermal underwear — 2 sets and thermal socks — 3 pairs.
  4. Shirts and T—shirts are for every day.
  5. Jeans or other comfortable trousers — several pairs.
  6. "Turtlenecks" are suitable for wearing on board, as well as as a base for a warm sweater.
  7. Sweaters are made of wool or fleece.
  8. Fancy clothes — for a welcome dinner and a farewell cocktail with the captain.

Footwear

  1. High rubber boots — there is no need to take them with you; all passengers will be provided with boots for the duration of the cruise.
  2. Comfortable shoes — for wearing on board.
  3. Urban clothing and shoes — for walking around the city at the beginning and at the end of the cruise.

Hat and gloves

  1. A warm hat protects the head and ears, as well as a warm scarf.
  2. Gloves and mittens — 2 pairs.

Other necessary items

  1. Sunglasses and a cream with a high sun protection factor — keep in mind that reflected light from water, snow and ice can be very penetrating even in cloudy weather.
  2. Protective lip balm — to prevent chapping.
  3. Backpack — a waterproof backpack for your camera and other necessary items on disembarkation. Also make sure that the camera in the backpack is packed in a waterproof case. It's a big disappointment to be left without photos because of the soaked equipment. For environmental reasons, it is not recommended to use plastic bags to protect electronic devices from moisture, and disembarkation on the coast of South Georgia with plastic bags is completely prohibited.
  4. Bathing suit — for polar bathing and Jacuzzi on the deck of the Sea Spirit.
  5. Binoculars — not a single polar inhabitant will escape you.
  6. The camera — believe me, you will have something to take pictures of.
  7. A set of batteries is used to ensure the operation of the camera and other equipment.
  8. Flash cards — in our digital age, an additional memory card will never be superfluous.
  9. Chargers — for phones, laptops, etc.
  10. An additional adapter for sockets if you are traveling on board the Sea Spirit vessel and plan to take several electronic devices with you that require regular recharging. You will receive one adapter at the reception.
  11. On board the icebreaker "50 Years of Victory" the mains voltage is 220 V, no adapter is required.
  12. Medical supplies prescribed by a doctor are provided for several additional days.
  13. An additional pair of optical glasses or a set of contact lenses.
  14. Motion sickness remedies — motion stabilizers will make your trip as comfortable as possible, but still it's a sea cruise, so we recommend taking motion sickness remedies.
  15. Thermos Flask — We recommend bringing a portable thermos flask that can be filled with hot water at the bar. Please note that the use of electric kettles and stoves, including rice cookers, on board is strictly prohibited for safety reasons. This policy has been introduced to ensure the safe and comfortable stay of all our guests on the ship.

Choose comfortable, spacious clothes for a cruise. It is better to wear two light clothes (for example, a turtleneck and a fleece) than one very warm sweater. In this case, a thin layer of air will remain between the layers of clothing, which will serve as an excellent insulator when the body temperature rises.;

When choosing between cotton and wool/silk, choose the latter – they retain warm air better. We also recommend paying attention to synthetic materials that take on their shape again after compression — they are well suited for cruising. Items with synthetic insulation (polystyrene) will be more relevant on the expedition than items with natural goose or duck down lining, since synthetics are less susceptible to getting wet. We also recommend that you bring your fleece clothing, which is so popular with travelers.

Do not dress too warmly, so as not to break out in a sweat.

Remember that your feet and hands are most susceptible to hypothermia: make sure that they stay dry and warm. The best solution would be to take mittens — they are perfect for a polar expedition. Gloves are also useful: they can be alternated with mittens and worn in favorable weather conditions.

Choose waterproof and at the same time "breathable" materials. This will avoid condensation formation under the clothes.;

Another polar axiom: "If your feet are cold, put on a hat!" Make sure that your head is always warm. Along with a hat covering your ears and forehead, bring a headdress that will cover your neck and chin if necessary.
