Itinerary

  • Day 1 - Arrival. Sary-kum barkhan, Sulak canyon, Chirkeyskoye reservoir

08:00 Gathering of the group at the railway station of Makhachkala.

The southern gates of the Caucasus welcome you! That's what sunny Dagestan is called. Today we will go on a circular route from north to south, so that emotions, landscapes, impressions will be on the rise!

The sand dune of Sary-kum. There is a real desert in the Caucasus, where there are more than 2,000 glaciers! The Sary-kum dune is officially recognized as the second largest in the world, giving way to the first dune in the Sahara.

Sary-kuma is 12 kilometers long, 4 kilometers wide, and 252 meters high!

On a trip to Dagestan, we will walk barefoot along the golden sands, feel the sand pouring through our fingers and take unique photos in the place where the legendary film "The White Sun of the Desert" was shot.

Next, our way lies to the most famous attraction of these places – the Sulak Canyon! This is the deepest canyon in Europe!

Its depth reaches 1,900 meters, it is 60 meters deeper than the Grand Canyon in the USA. We will visit one of the most successful viewing platforms, which is breathtaking!

Our tour of the pearls of Dagestan continues. There are practically no lakes in this region, but picturesque reservoirs have taken their place.

The Chirkey reservoir was created in 1974 in a narrow part of the Sulak River, the coastline is indented, which is why many cozy coves, grottos and viewing platforms have formed along the coast.

Here we will take a new series of amazing photos and go boating. A boat trip is organized only from March to November inclusive.

    • active part: 4.5 km, elevation difference 170-250 m (Sary-kum dune).
