Gastronomic tastes of the Ivanovo region

Transfer to the village of Lukh. 

Lukh has been a city for five hundred years. Burned down and rebuilt from the ashes. It was the patrimony of the metropolitan, the capital of the appanage principality, and then the county. It was only at the beginning of the 20th century that it lost the status of a city.

At the entrance, guests are greeted by the ancient coat of arms of the city of the 18th century sample. "In the upper field is the coat of arms of Kostroma (only the galley is depicted from the stern with lanterns and lowered ladders), in the lower field "in a scarlet field is a golden staircase, meaning that this city has been given the means to climb to the top of its prosperity by the approval of the viceroyalty."

Lukh is the birthplace of the most vigorous variety of onions, without which, according to legend, not a single meal of Ivan the Terrible could do. So many onions were grown here that residents of neighboring villages had to be invited to cultivate the beds and weeding.

Lukh strengthened the title of the onion capital of Russia with the opening of the Onion Tower. The terem is located in the onion hut, a special house for drying and storing onions, built at the beginning of the XX century. Previously, the hut belonged to the family of noble Lukh merchants Vinokurov.

Today, in the Onion Tower, you can see an exposition of the decoration of an old Russian hut with pre-revolutionary household attributes, kitchen utensils, dresses and shirts sewn in the century before last, try onion pies according to ancient Lukha recipes, buy local souvenirs.

Of particular interest to the guests is the courtyard area decorated with wooden sculptures, benches, a gazebo created by the hands of a resident of the Lukh settlement, a folk master of the Ivanovo region Kamil Davletov.

A gastronomic feast of organic village products.

Rustic lunch from the oven is a unique taste of Slavic cuisine: Russian green cabbage soup, potatoes with herbs, homemade lard, pickles, pastries and a rustic drink, cooked with soul.                                                                                                                                  

The incomparable taste and aroma of Russian rustic cabbage soup with green sauerkraut. To prepare this dish, you need a cabbage soup – pickled lower leaves of white cabbage, chopped with carrots.

Transfer to Shuya.

Sightseeing tour of Shuya .  

Shuya is famous as the birthplace of the "elected tsar" Vasily Shuisky, merchant dynasties, holy icons, the wondrous beauty of the Church of the Resurrection of Christ and the tallest in Russia "candle" bell tower, whose height is 106 m. 

And also Shuisky harmonicas, Shuisky chintz, Shuisky embroidery and Shuisky liqueurs were famous all over the country. The object of our pride, our history, was collected bit by bit here and is carefully preserved. 

A private "Cheese Factory behind glass" is already waiting for you, where a glass wall separates the workshop and the store, so that customers can see the entire cheese production process.

The company produces more than 15 types of soft and semi–hard cheeses, cheese for frying haloumi, American Parmesan Monterey Jack (the only hard cheese in the assortment so far) and camembert cheese with white mold, as well as butter and cottage cheese. 

Cheeses are made using both European technologies and Soviet-era developments. The opportunity to buy the products of the cheese factory.

We will visit one of the first wineries and learn its history in the Museum "State Wine Warehouse No. 3", where you will be treated to berry tinctures.

At the end of the XIX and the beginning of the XX century, the construction of more than 300 state-owned wineries (warehouses, as they were called then) was started. One of these factories was the Shuisky state-owned Wine warehouse, later known as the Shuisky Distillery. 

Currently, an exposition has been created on the territory of Shuiskaya Vodka JSC in a historical building of the late 19th century, telling about the development of the plant from 1899 to the present day. The tour tells about the history of one of the oldest enterprises in the city.
