Gastronomic tastes of the Ivanovo region

Transfer to the village of Lukh. Historians are still debating when the Moon was founded. But it is reliably known that already during the reign of Genghis Khan's grandson, Batu, Lukh was burned, and before that it was looted.

The future town grew up next to the outpost of the Vladimir-Suzdal Principality. Earthen ramparts have been preserved from it, on which a piece of a medieval wooden fortress of the XII-XIV centuries has been recreated.

Lukh has been a city for five hundred years. Burned down and recovered from the ashes. It was the patrimony of the metropolitan, the capital of the appanage principality, and then the county. It was only at the beginning of the 20th century that it lost its status as a city.

This was done "at the request of the workers" – the territories of land use for urban residents were legally limited, but they did not want to give up their vegetable gardens, so much so that they began to live in the countryside.

At the entrance, guests are greeted by the ancient coat of arms of the 18th century city.

Lukh is the birthplace of the most vigorous onion variety, without which, according to legend, not a single meal of Ivan the Terrible could do. So many onions were grown here that residents of neighboring villages had to be invited to cultivate the beds and weeding.

Lukh consolidated the title of the onion capital of Russia with the opening of the Onion Tower.

The terem is located in the onion hut, a special house for drying and storing onions, built in the early 20th century. Previously, the hut belonged to the family of noble Luhsk merchants Vinokurov.

Today, in the Onion Chamber, you can see an exposition of the decoration of an old Russian hut with pre-revolutionary household items, kitchen utensils, dresses and shirts, taste onion pies, and purchase local souvenirs.

Of particular interest to the guests is the courtyard area, decorated with wooden sculptures, benches, and a gazebo created by the hands of Kamil Davletov, a resident of the Luhskoye settlement, a folk craftsman of the Ivanovo region.

Visit to the museum, which is named after the inventor Nikolai Nikolaevich Benardos, famous for the discovery of "Electrogephaestus" – a process now known as electric arc welding. Welding was not the only discovery – Nikolai Nikolaevich created more than 200 original inventions.

In the museum you can see an album of authentic drawings by Benardos and even exhibits created based on these drawings. The local history exhibition "Lukh: pages of history" contains objects of urban and peasant life, documents and photographs telling about the life of the village from the moment of its foundation to the present day.

Rustic food from the oven is a unique taste of Slavic cuisine: Russian green cabbage soup, potatoes with herbs, homemade bacon, pickles, pastries and a rustic drink, cooked with soul.

The incomparable taste and aroma of Russian rustic cabbage soup with green sauerkraut. To prepare this dish, you need a cabbage soup – pickled lower leaves of white cabbage, chopped with carrots. We cook our cabbage soup in a Russian oven according to our grandmothers' recipe.

Rustic potatoes with herbs and real bacon. And of course with floral tea with homemade lamb.

Moving to the village of Vasilyevskoye with a rich history and its own brand.

The village of Vasilyevskoye, Shuisky district, was famous for its pretzels at the beginning of the 20th century, delicious bread in Soviet times, and now printed gingerbread. The family that bakes them called them Vasilyevsky gingerbread.

Gingerbread dough: rye flour, butter, honey, lots of eggs, without water. That's what gingerbread is for, because it uses spices.

Spices, not just one. There are 8 components in Vasilyevsky. And this mixture of 8 components is called in the old way, as it used to be called, dry perfumes."

Dry perfumes include ginger, cardamom, coriander, cinnamon, and even a little pepper.

The bakery hosts workshops on making gingerbread. Everyone can see the gingerbread production process and take an active part in it, taking with them a hand-made fragrant delicacy.

The dough is kneaded in melted honey, butter, chicken eggs, wheat and rye flour are added. There is also a secret ingredient in the recipe – a mixture of eight spices that makes gingerbread especially fragrant.

20 special wooden molds with different patterns are used for production.

The bakery produces up to 6,500 printed gingerbread cookies of various shapes with six different fillings per month – boiled condensed milk, walnuts, sunflower seeds, and jam.

Bread and cereal loaves are also baked here. You will have a unique opportunity to make a printed gingerbread yourself and take it with you.

Gingerbread is in great demand, especially among tourists who purchase the products as souvenirs.

Transfer to Shuya.

And we will end our acquaintance according to the good old tradition on the staff. We will visit one of the first wineries and learn its history at the Museum "State Wine Warehouse No. 3", where you will be treated to berry tinctures.

In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the construction of more than 300 state-owned wineries (warehouses, as they were called then) began. One of these factories was the Shuisky state-owned Wine Warehouse, later known as the Shuisky Distillery.

Currently, an exposition has been created on the territory of Shuiskaya Vodka JSC in a historic building of the end of the 19th century, telling about the development of the plant from 1899 to the present day.

The tour tells about the history of one of the oldest enterprises in the city. The products use grain alcohol "Lux", purified artesian water from its own well with a depth of 125 m, natural berries and herbs.
