Itinerary

Day 1 - Meeting. Getting to know the city
Meeting with a guide at the railway station of Ivanovo.
Sightseeing tour of Ivanovo.
During the tour you will visit the ancient Shchudrov tent, a unique monument of stone architecture of the 17th century, stroll through Revolution Square, see the architecture of constructivism – the famous "Ship House" and "Bird House", the memorial "Krasnaya Talka", dedicated to the events of the First Russian Revolution.
Visit to the St. Vvedensky Convent.
The convent in the center of Ivanovo was founded relatively recently, in 1991, but the Vvedenskaya Church, which forms the basis of the monastery complex, is an ancient one, dating back to the early 20th century.
The construction of the temple has been carried out since 1901 at the expense of private donations from benefactors: merchants and manufacturers, collectives of workers and employees of Ivanovo-Voznesensk.
In 1918, Patriarch Tikhon, the first patriarch after the restoration of the patriarchate in Russia, visited the church. He personally conducted a divine service in the Vvedenskaya Church.

Excursion to the Museum of Ivanovo chintz.
The museum is located in the ancestral home of Dmitry Gennadyevich Burylin, built in the early 20th century in the Art Nouveau style.
The main exposition of the museum is "Ivanovo textile. History and Modernity" tells about the development of production from ancient times to the present day.
The main idea of the exhibition is to show Ivanovo chintz as one of the types of decorative and applied art, continuing the traditions of folk ornament.
Looking at Ivanovo chintzes, one can see how folk art manifested itself in the artistic design of fabrics, trace the development of a special style, bright and elegant, inherent in Ivanovo fabrics.

Day 2 - Palekh Shuya
Breakfast at the hotel.
Transfer to Palekh.
Walking tour of the village. Palekh gave the name to the world-famous folk art.
This small village in the Ivanovo region is included in the list of historical cities of Russia.
Palekh style – jewelry boxes, brooches, murals and other lacquer miniatures painted in gold and bright colors on a black background.
In these original works, the plots of folk epics, fairy tales and songs come to life.
In the village we will see old wooden houses, one of which houses the museum of Palekh miniature.
Inspection of Holy Cross Cathedral.
In addition to the Palekh painting, the main attraction of the village is the Cathedral of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, an outstanding architectural monument of the XVIII century.
A beautiful tent-roofed bell tower rises above the temple, inside it is decorated with a carved iconostasis and paintings by Palekh craftsmen, who glorified the cathedral far beyond the borders of the Ivanovo region.
Visit to the Palekh Art Museum.
Palekh has been famous for its skillful painters since pre–Petrine times - the village supplied icon painters and restorers for the Moscow Kremlin, the Novodevichy Monastery and the Trinity-Sergius Lavra.
Transfer to Shuya.
Shuya city tour.
At first glance, it is difficult to imagine that Shuya was a successful industrial and commercial center a little over a hundred years ago. Legends were made about the outstanding entrepreneurial spirit of the Shuyan ("The Shuisky rascal will at least yoke someone").
The special relationship of the city with representatives of the royal dynasties is a separate point of pride for the inhabitants, because the last of the Rurikovich was from Shuya himself.
Upon closer acquaintance with the city, we will discover many interesting stories.
During the tour, we will take a walk along the main pedestrian street – Shuisky Arbat. Cozy stone mansions lined it.
On the main square of the city, the 17th-century Resurrection Cathedral, which seems grandiose for a small Shuya, stands, where the list of the miraculous icon of the Shuya-Smolensk Mother of God is kept.
In front of the cathedral is a five-tiered 106-meter tall "candle" bell tower.
Lunch (to be paid separately).
Visit to M. A. Pavlov's palace.
The palace belonged to Mikhail Alekseevich Pavlov (1846-1915), a manufacturer and merchant of the first guild.
The rich interior of the time has been perfectly preserved in the palace.
Free time.
Return to the hotel.

Day 3 - Museum-reserve of A.N. Ostrovsky – Kineshma
Breakfast at the hotel.
Transfer to Shchelykovo.
Visit to the memorial and nature museum-reserve of A.N. Ostrovsky "Shchelykovo".
Shchelykovo is the estate of the great Russian playwright Alexander Nikolaevich Ostrovsky, a place that he compared "with the best places in Switzerland and Italy," a place that became his lifelong love.
Here he worked hard and fruitfully, received numerous guests, and found his last refuge.
Manor house surrounded by an ancient park, the Church of St. St. Nicholas of the XVIII century, the literary, theatrical and ethnographic museums, the cultural and educational center Blue House are always ready to receive you.
Transfer to Kineshma.

Sightseeing tour of Kineshma.
Kineshma is the second largest and economically most promising city in the Ivanovo region, located on the right bank of the Volga River.
Kineshma has retained its provincial charm to this day.
During a walking tour of the historical center of the city, we will see architectural monuments of the XVIII – early XX centuries: shopping malls, schools, factories and other residential and public buildings.
We will walk along the embankment along Volzhsky Boulevard, admire the cozy gazebos, ancient and modern monuments and, most importantly, the beautiful Volga landscapes.
Visit to the Trinity Assumption Cathedral.
The architectural ensemble consists of two churches – Assumption and Trinity, a bell tower and a priest's house.
The cathedral is located on the high bank of the Volga River, on the territory of the former Kineshma fortress.
Return to the hotel.

Day 4 - Ples is an open–air museum city

Transfer to Ples.
Sightseeing tour of the city of Ples.
Ples is a small town with a population of 2,000 people, but it has the status of a nature reserve and is actually an open–air museum.
The main attractions of Ples are the gentle Russian nature, amazing landscapes, numerous parks and, of course, the Volga River.
During the tour, we will get acquainted with Levitan's places, the history of the city and take a walk along the embankment.
Visit to the Isaac Ilyich Levitan Museum.
The house museum dedicated to the life and work of the great artist was opened on August 25, 1972.
It is located in an old mansion built in the first half of the 19th century.
The museum houses original paintings by Isaac Levitan, as well as Vasily Polenov, Alexei Savrasov, Ivan Shishkin and other artists.
You can also visit Levitan's memorial rooms in the museum and get acquainted with the most interesting pages of his biography.
Free time in Ples.
Transfer to Ivanovo railway station.
Departure from Ivanovo by any train after 17:30.

I'm so glad I chose the 'Across the Expanses of Perm the Great' tour in July 2024. It was a high-quality, engaging, and thoughtfully designed journey through the entire Perm region. The trip was full of fascinating discoveries: ancient monasteries, unique museums, the distinctive Permian animal style and wooden deities, the history of salt production and the Stroganovs in the Urals, and much more. The natural beauty of Parma was breathtaking: dense forests, countless rivers, mountains, and even an ice cave. The hotels were comfortable, and the breakfasts and lunches were tasty, often featuring elements of local cuisine. Traveling in a small group made the experience even more enjoyable, after all, it's usually seasoned travelers who venture to the Perm region. One special moment was when we all got to bake and taste traditional gingerbread made from an old recipe, for many of us, it was a first.
