The city was chosen as the capital of Russian Christmas for a reason, before the revolution, because of the number of churches, it was called the second Suzdal.
Shuya is famous as the birthplace of the "elected tsar" Vasily Shuisky, merchant dynasties, holy icons, the wonderfully beautiful Church of the Resurrection of Christ and Russia's tallest "candle" bell tower, which is 106 m high.
