09:00 Breakfast at the hotel.
10:30 a.m. Hurul Shakyusn Xume is the epitome of Kalmyk architecture and Tibetan traditions.
The temple is a twenty-meter two-story building with a superstructure in the form of a two-tiered pagoda. The central place of the first floor of the Shakyusn-Xume is occupied by an altar and an almost four-meter statue of Shakyamuni Buddha, covered with gold.
One of the basic rules of behavior in the temple is not to turn your back to the Buddha, moving in the direction of the Sun.
Khurul is located on the outskirts of the city beyond its borders, on the way to the village of Arshan.
The site for the construction was consecrated by the Dalai Lama XIV during his second visit to Kalmykia in 1992, and the temple itself was built in 1996. There is steppe and winds around Shakyusn-Xume, and there are only a few houses nearby where monks live.
11:30 Departure to the Lone Poplar natural monument in Kalmykia (20 km, 40 min.).
A gigantic tree grows right in the middle of the steppe – five kilometers southwest of the village of Khar-Buluk. The height of the giant poplar is 37 meters, and the girth of the trunk at the waist level is 5 meters.
According to legend, the tree was planted by the Buddhist monk Purdash Bagshi, who was the abbot of the most revered khurul in the Kalmyk steppes.
One of the ten Kalachakra Stupas in the world is located here – the Kalachakra Stupa of Green Tara, unique to Russia and Europe.
Buddhist philosophy reveres many deities who are able to bestow special qualities, protection and patronage on people. One of the most famous and powerful deities is the goddess Tara. Tara is considered the "mother of all Buddhas", a symbol of universal compassion.
Green Tara is the goddess of fearlessness and the keeper of the hearth.
The patroness and protector is Green Tara, who will surely help everyone who asks her for help and pronounces her mantra.
Today, from the place where a lonely poplar tree grows, there is a beautiful panorama of the surrounding area.
