There is a legend that this poplar was planted in 1846 by the monk Purdash-bagshi, who brought it from a trip to the Dalai Lama in Tibet.
This poplar is considered a sacred tree by the Kalmyks Buddhists, believers meditate, pray and perform rituals under the shade of its mighty crowns.
The age of the poplar is more than 100 years old, the height of the tree is 30-35 m, the powerful trunk at a height of 1 m from the ground in girth is about 4.5 m.
Healing springs flow next to the poplar tree. Water is considered holy and healing, wound healing.
A lone poplar with a cascade of springs was included in the system of specially protected areas by a Decree of the Council of Ministers of the Kalmyk ASSR dated October 8, 1981. Lone Poplar is the winner of the "Russian Tree 2019" competition, 3rd place in the "European Tree 2019" competition.
15:30 Hurul Shakusn-Syume — visit to the very first hurul Shakusn-syume since post-Soviet times. Khurul is located six kilometers from the capital of Kalmykia, near the village of Arshan.
The official name of this religious building is "Geden Sheddup Choikorling", which literally means "The Holy Monastery of the theory and practice of the Gelug school" in Tibetan, and loosely translated — "The Holy Monastery of Enlightened monks".
"Shakyusn-Xume" is the embodiment of Kalmyk architecture and Tibetan traditions. The temple is a twenty-meter two-story building with a superstructure in the form of a two-tiered pagoda. The building stretched twenty meters long, nineteen meters wide. The central place of the ground floor of the "Shakyusn-Xume" is occupied by an altar and an almost four-meter statue of Shakyamuni Buddha, covered with gold.

17:30 The memorial complex "Exodus and Return" is one of the most interesting monuments in Elista. It was created by Ernst the Unknown. The monument is dedicated to the deportation and subsequent return of the Kalmyks. It's a difficult place, but we recommend visiting it.
