Itinerary

  • Day 1 - Sightseeing tour of Borovsk and Kaluga, Maloyaroslavets and the Cosmonautics Museum

    07:45 Gathering of the group in Moscow: Yugo-Zapadnaya metro station (at the entrance to Yummy and Dot (two-storey building, Pokryshkina str., 2), in the metro: exit No. 5, the guide greets with a sign with the name of the tour).

    08:00 Departure for the tour.

    Borovsk. Sightseeing tour of the city, which is famous for its ancient architecture, modern frescoes on the walls of houses and other beauties. In addition, there are many religious shrines and historical sites in this place.

    In the 18th century, Borovsk became the scene of the tragedy of the Old Believers. Protopope Avvakum was exiled here, and Boyarina Morozova and her sister, Princess Urusova, were placed in the Borovsky prison.

    St. Paphnutius Monastery, located near Borovsk. The majestic monastery is a fortress of the 15th century with narrow loophole windows, an example of the defensive architecture of medieval Russia.

    Today, this monastery combines a whole complex of church buildings of various styles and times. There's a lot to see here!

    Maloyaroslavets is the "city of military glory".

    Now it is a quiet county town in the Kaluga province, as it always has been. But all its sights persistently remind of the events of 1812 and 1941, for which it received its honorary title.

    Lunch.

    Transfer to Kaluga.

    Kaluga. Sightseeing tour of one of the oldest cities in the Russian province, beautiful not only for its location, but also for its historical buildings, architectural monuments, and functioning temples associated with the stay of many great Russian people.

    Today, the city center is a famous monument of urban planning, as it has managed to partially preserve the buildings of the 18th century (charming streets with merchant houses and noble mansions).

    You will take a fascinating journey through the historical part of the city, you will see:

    • living rooms are a symbol of merchant Kaluga;
    • Korobov Chambers – the first stone building of the city;
    • The place where Marina Mnishek and False Dmitry II lived during the Time of Troubles, who dreamed of making Kaluga the capital of Russia.;
    • the stone bridge, built during the reign of Catherine II.;
    • the Governor's House, where A.O. Smirnova-Rosset lived, who was admired by Russian writers Pushkin, Gogol, Odoevsky, Vyazemsky, Dahl;
    • The building of the Noble Assembly, where Shamil, the imam of Chechnya and Dagestan, who lived in exile in Kaluga, took the oath of allegiance to the Tsar.;
    • the Zolotarev estate, where the royal personages stayed, including Emperor Alexander I, Nicholas I, the Grand Duke, the future Emperor Alexander II;
    • Take a walk through the city garden, where the last Russian Emperor Nicholas II and members of the royal family once walked.;
    • Visit the Trinity Cathedral, where Saint John of Kronstadt served the Liturgy 120 years ago.

    Museum of the History of Cosmonautics (new building). The world's first space-themed museum, created with the direct participation of S.P. Korolev and Yuri Gagarin.

    The museum's unique exhibitions reveal the history of aeronautics, aviation, rocket and space technology, and reflect the history of cosmonautics from the first artificial satellite of the Earth to modern long-term orbital stations.

    The museum has the most comprehensive collection of museum objects on cosmonautics in the country, most of which are unique.

    In addition to the unique exhibition, new space-themed monuments are on display, and authentic exhibits that have been in space flight are of particular value.

    The scientific legacy of K.E. Tsiolkovsky, the founder of theoretical cosmonautics, is exhaustively presented.

    Accommodation at the hotel.

    Dinner on your own.

    I missed the first day of the tour due to work, but I still really enjoyed the remaining excursions. I would have liked to learn more about Kozelsk and spend at least another half hour exploring it.
