In the 18th century, Borovsk became the scene of the tragedy of the Old Believers. Protopope Avvakum was exiled here, and Boyarina Morozova and her sister, Princess Urusova, were placed in the Borovsky prison.
St. Paphnutius Monastery, located near Borovsk. The majestic monastery is a fortress of the 15th century with narrow loophole windows, an example of the defensive architecture of medieval Russia.
Today, this monastery combines a whole complex of church buildings of various styles and times. There's a lot to see here!
Maloyaroslavets is the "city of military glory".
