In the 18th century, Borovsk became the scene of the tragedy of the Old Believers. Protopope Avvakum was exiled here, and Boyarina Morozova and her sister, Princess Urusova, were placed in the Borovsky prison.
St. Paphnutius Monastery, located near Borovsk. The majestic monastery is a fortress of the 15th century with narrow loophole windows, an example of the defensive architecture of medieval Russia. Today, this monastery combines a whole complex of church buildings of various styles and times. There's a lot to see here!
Maloyaroslavets. "The city of military glory." Now it is a quiet county town in the Kaluga province, as it always has been. But all its sights persistently remind of the events of 1812 and 1941, for which it received its honorary title.
