The Komandorsky State Natural Biosphere Reserve is the largest marine reserve in Russia. It is located on the Commander Islands, the westernmost islands of the Commander-Aleutian Arc. From the south they are washed by the waters of the Pacific Ocean, and from the north by the Bering Sea.

We will go on a trip to the most interesting corners of this amazing place, get acquainted with its flora and fauna and learn the history of the development of the Commander Islands.

Itinerary

Day 1 - Arrival in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky
Meeting at the airport with the coordinator of the group.
Transfer to the hotel (optional arrival at the fish market).

Day 2 - Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky – Nikolskoye
07:30-08:00 Breakfast at the hotel.

10:30-13:55 Departure on the Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky – Nikolskoye route by flight DE 139.
13:55-14:30 Arrival at Bering Island. Transfer to the hotel of the visit center of the Commander Reserve.

The Komandorsky State Natural Biosphere Reserve is the largest marine reserve in Russia.It is located on the Commander Islands, the westernmost islands of the Commander-Aleutian Arc.
The largest islands of the archipelago are Medny and Bering. It also includes two small islands – Ariy Kamen and Toporkov. It is bordered by the Pacific Ocean to the south and the Bering Sea to the north.
15:30-20:00 Excursion to the bay "Staraya Gavan".
A walk along the shore of the Bering Sea. Arctic fox watching.
Transfer to the lake. Sarannoye is the largest body of water on Bering Island.
Salmon spawning observation.
Return to the hotel. Supper. Rest.

Day 3 - The world of whales
Early breakfast.
Walk to the sea pier. Boarding the boat.
Safety briefing.
The passage to O. Toporkov.
The low island of Toporkov is named after the main species of birds nesting here in the Chistikov family – toporkov. This is one of the most beautiful species found in the reserve. Their colors look especially bright against the background of the dull, gray island landscapes.
Observation of bird markets. Then there is a boat tour along the western coast of Bering Island.
The sea waters around the Commander Islands are the most accessible place in Russia, where dozens of whales can be observed at the same time.
In total, 21 species of cetaceans have been registered in the Commander's water area – this is one quarter of all cetaceans known in the world!
Humpback whales, killer whales, minke whales, sperm whales, porpoises, as well as swimmers and fin whales are more common here.
On the way there is an inspection of the Steller Arch, the visiting card of the Commander Reserve.

Day 4 - Marine mammal rookeries
Early breakfast.
Seating in jeeps / ATVs.
Departure along the route North – North-West marine mammal rookeries.
Marine mammal rookeries are another attraction point of the Commander Nature Reserve. Over 250,000 northern fur seals gather on the four island rookeries in the summer, which is 1/5 of their global population!
Together with the northern fur seal, a sea lion listed in the Red Book of Russia can be observed in the rookery.
The total duration of the tour is ~ 8 hours.
Return to the hotel.
Supper. A sauna is available on request.

Day 5 - Commander Bay
Excursion to Commander Bay, the last campsite of the Second Kamchatka Expedition, to the grave of Vitus Bering.
It was here that on November 28, 1741, the flagship of the Second Kamchatka Expedition, the packet ship St. Peter, under the command of Vitus Bering, was shipwrecked.
This was the beginning of the development of the Commander Islands. The crew members spent 9 months here. 16 people did not survive that harsh winter, among them Commander Vitus Behring. The graves of the sailors who died on the island are located in the bay.
The way to Commander Bay lies along the eastern coast of Bering Island, famous for its numerous waterfalls and picturesque coves, including Buyan Bay, famous for its gems.

Day 7 - Nikolskoye – Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky

The tour includes accommodation in hotels/visiting center of the reserve.

The tour is conducted individually, the calculation is made for a specific request of up to 10 people.

The preliminary cost of the tour for 1 person starts from 500,000 rubles.

The recreation center "Krechet" is located in the village of Paratunka, in the Kamchatka Territory. A parking lot is available for guests.

There are two buildings on the well-maintained territory, where there are rooms of various categories. They have everything you need for a comfortable stay: comfortable beds, a private bathroom, a mini fridge, and a balcony with a beautiful view of the surrounding forest.

Meals can be arranged in a cafe or use the mangalas in a specially designated area.

The indoor recreation area has a swimming pool with thermal water, as well as a sauna. There is a river nearby, along which it is pleasant to arrange walks. Yelizovo Airport is 21.8 km away.

Important: there is a possibility of delays in flights Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky – Nikolskoye – Peropavlovsk-Kamchatsky due to weather conditions for up to several days. A reserve of free days after the tour is required!

We adjust to flights to the Commander Islands, departures are usually held on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Perhaps the schedule will be changed. You can also rent a charter flight on request. Departures are often postponed because the weather in this area is extremely unstable.
