Kamchatka tour to Tolbachik volcano

We drive to the village of Kozyrevsk (about 7-8 hours) along the federal highway, which consists of 200 km of asphalt and almost 300 km of gravel.

On the way, we will stop in the village of Sokoch and taste the famous local pies.

They are famous primarily due to their considerable size!

We will stay in a cozy guest house for the night, and in the evening the guide will give a briefing on the further program.

Transfer to Tolbachik volcano to glamping in the Dead Forest off-road through the Kamchatka taiga and through volcanic ash, we will have to bypass a large lava tongue that blocked the road during the 2012 eruption.

It takes about 4-7 hours to drive (depending on the condition of the "road", if you can call it that).

Cozy glamping will be our home for a few days.

After lunch, we will take a walk through the Dead Forest, which was formed as a result of the eruption in 1975 — the trees were buried under the red-hot volcanic ash — their skeletons have been preserved to this day.

After more than 50 years of life, death is gradually gaining ground — mosses, willow tea, raspberries are now growing in the Dead Forest - the first harbingers of the rebirth of the Earth.

We will walk through the Dead Forest and look at the Zvezda crater, where lava once boiled, and now it is a pile of slag and ash on the edge of the Dead Forest - here we will find a skin cave, which all lovers of caving can crawl through.

And we will also have time to climb the active cones of Tolbachik volcano, which were formed during the Great fractured eruption of Tolbachik volcano in 1975 — the largest eruption of the 20th century, its area is 800 square kilometers!

There is no clear walking distance on this day, we will walk about 10-15 km on foot.

Today we will walk through the almost cooled lava field formed during the 2012-2013 eruption.

It was named the Jubilee fractured Tolbachinsky eruption.

We will walk through the lava field, climb the active volcanic cones — huge hills of volcanic rocks, look for lava caves that periodically form on the field due to the fragility of the lava.…

Here you can still find areas where volcanic heat breaks out from under the lava, as well as lava caves formed as a result of collapses of fragile lava rock.

Also, according to the weather and forces, it will be possible to climb the Naboko breakthrough cone — it was he who erupted in 2012-2013 and formed the lava field through which we walked.

Based on the weather forecast, the guide can swap this and tomorrow's days.

For the most active and hardy participants — climbing the volcano Plosky Tolbachik (3140 m).

At its top, we will have an unforgettable view of the lava fields, dozens of volcanoes and volcanoes located in this area, as well as the old Tolbachik crater, about 500 m deep!

The ascent is not technically difficult, it is pedestrian without the use of any special equipment.

But there will be a protracted ascent to the crater, usually it takes 6-8 hours.

From the edge of the crater, you can see the crater of the Plosky Tolbachik volcano — 2 km in diameter and 500 m deep.

And in the other direction, there is a view of the neighboring peak of the Ostroy Tolbachik volcano, as well as a panorama of the volcanoes of the Klyuchevskaya group.

In case of good weather, it will be possible to look from above at all the places where we passed.

In the evening, we will descend from the volcano and return to the camp along the familiar lava field.

If desired, you can not go to the volcano and stay in the camp.

Traveling light is 13 km, climbing 1800 m, dropping 1800 m.

If it will be difficult for you to walk through lava fields and cones, then we strongly do not recommend climbing Tolbachik!

The guide may unilaterally refuse to allow climbing to those of the participants who do not have good enough physical fitness for reasons of both their own safety and the safety of the group.

Transfer to Yelizovo 500 km 12-14 hours depending on the condition of the road.

In early August, our participants on such excursions almost always meet whales and killer whales in Russian Bay.
