Multifaceted Kamchatka

We will start our route with the home volcanoes of the southern group. Domestic volcanoes in Kamchatka are called giants surrounding the city, which can be viewed from almost anywhere in it.

07:30 Departure through the Vilyuchinsky pass, the plateau of the Gorely volcano, to the area of the Mutnovsky volcano by a KAMAZ all-terrain vehicle. 

Stop at the Vilyuchinsky pass, which offers a magnificent panorama of the neighboring volcanoes – Vilyuchinsky and Gorely.

The purpose of our trip today will be the Summer springs — an active geo-thermal plateau.

Arrival at the starting point of the hiking route. The briefing. 

Easy trekking with small ascents and descents to the valley of Summer cottage springs (about 2 km in one direction). A walk among various thermal phenomena that will be practically under our feet in maximum proximity — boiling boilers, hot springs, large and small steam-gas jets, small waterfalls. 

Red-hot steam roars straight out of the ground, enveloping the yellow-red stones and green slopes of the valley. Everything is hissing, whistling, bubbling. There are also bubbling gray puddles with viscous boiling water, fountains of hot springs, tunnels. 

Country springs are called the Small Valley of Geysers, but there are no real geysers here — not boiling water, but hot gas, which heats the water on the surface, simulating a geyser, comes out of the ground.

Let's go to the new active zone, which appeared in 2024, creating a new landscape. 

Return to the car, in a quiet place in the valley of the stream, we will make a picnic lunch: lunch box, hot tea. 

On the way back, we will stop and walk (about 500-700 m) to another picturesque location — a 16-meter waterfall on the Calm Stream, which is called the "Snow Leopard".

In the afternoon, return to the spa hotel.

07:30 Departure to Gorely volcano by KAMAZ all-terrain vehicle.

Ascent to Gorely volcano (1829 m, 4 km, ascent takes 1.5-2 hours). 

When climbing a volcano with a group, a tour leader follows, as the head of the group, a guide guide and an assistant guide (with a full group of 16 people). 

Guides ensure the safety of the route, a comfortable pace of ascent, if necessary, accompany down those participants who have not mastered the ascent completely.

Gorely volcano is located 75 km southwest of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky and is unlikely to attract anyone's attention, but it is not for nothing that this "humble gentleman" is a natural monument. After all, it has a whole "collection" of craters, each of which has its own characteristics, and all of them create a unique ensemble. 

In ancient times, it was a volcano of huge size — 20-25 km, after the strongest eruption it completely collapsed, forming a caldera about 12 km, from which modern Gorely grew. 

Return to the car.

Early departure (06:00-06:40 — in the early days, early ascents are the easiest to experience, due to the difference in time zones). 

Transfer to the sea pier accompanied by a tour guide. 

07:00-08:00 Departure for a boat trip on a premium yacht "Madame De Bua" (Princess is a British brand of luxury yachts).

The yacht is 20 meters long, equipped with everything necessary for a safe and comfortable trip. At the bow and stern, you can take spectacular photos and enjoy the sea breeze and views, and in the warm and cozy cabin with upholstered furniture there is enough space for everyone to have lunch and relax. Sea fishing gear is provided.

It is known that Avacha Bay is the largest in the world. It's impossible not to fall in love with her at first sight!

After leaving, guests will be offered breakfast on board the yacht.

Along the way, we will visit the rocks "Three Brothers" — the "calling card" of the city, the bays of Tikhaya, Grotovaya, the island of Old Men — we will observe seabirds.

During the trip, we will see numerous bird markets: cormorants, hatchets, puffins, stables, ducks, various seagulls, and other birds circling in the air from dawn to dusk, alternately diving for prey into fish-rich waters. 

Fishing is provided in Vilyuchinskaya Bay — lenok, perch, flounder, (sometimes cod, white-throated halibut and terpug are caught).

At this time, the cook will cook fish soup from fresh fish for lunch, prepare seafood for tasting — crab, sashimi from flounder. It should be borne in mind that only crab freshly caught in the morning is served for tasting, and not all caught flounder is suitable for sashimi, so in rare cases, the tasting may not take place.

Then we will go along the coast to Russian Bay. Let's get as close as possible to Cape Perilous, Cape Kekurny, to watch sea otters and sea lions in the rookery near the Laperouse stones.

It is possible to meet killer whales and humpback whales. Every year they enter our waters and often accompany pleasure boats. The probability of seeing whales is almost 100%, except for the days after storms, when the animals go further into the ocean.

The cook will fry the caught fish on the way back and offer it for dinner. 

Return to the port by 18:00.

08:00 Loading into the car (passenger "shift shift" KAMAZ) and departure to the area of the Klyuchevskaya group of volcanoes (about 500 km). 

The Klyuchevskaya group consists of 14 active and extinct volcanoes, including the famous Klyuchevskaya Sopka, Shiveluch, Bezymyanny, Tolbachik, etc. This is the largest group of volcanoes in Russia.

To get to these unique places, we have to drive through almost half of Kamchatka, we will spend today on the road, but believe me, it's worth it!

On the way, lunch at a cafe in the village of Milkovo (at your own expense).

Crossing the bridge over the largest river of the peninsula — Kamchatka. 

In the evening, at about 18:00, arrival in Kozyrevsk. 

Accommodation in guest houses for 2 people, single occupancy is not provided — the last civilization remained 500 km away from us, wildlife is ahead and this is the first transit point of the route, from here tomorrow morning our journey through the Klyuchevsky Nature Park will begin.

The hospitable hosts will prepare a sauna for us to relax after the trip. 

Dinner is a hot meal, prepared by field cooks.

08:00 We leave for the "lunar" landscapes on Tolbachinsky Valley (about 4 hours along the forest road). The road passes through a coniferous forest, we will make several stops in picturesque places for photos.

The briefing. Tour of the cones of the Northern Breakthrough (2 hours). 

Tolbachik is an amazing and most powerful place in its energy! 

In 1975-1976, a catastrophic eruption occurred here — the largest in the XX century Large Fractured Tolbachin eruption (BTTI). For a year and a half, an incomparable and grandiose element raged. Millions of tons of ash and slag burst out of the cracks and covered all living things around for many tens of kilometers. 

Ascent to one of the cones of the Northern Breakthrough — Gorshkov cone (about 300 m, 30-40 minutes), which offers a fascinating view of the consequences of the strong eruption of 1975. The cone is still hot — we will feel its warmth under our feet!

Lunch — snack, hot tea. 

 Excursion in the Zvezda crater through the lava caves (1-1.5 hours). We will have the opportunity to go down into the frozen lava duct, through which a red-hot river of volcanic lava once flowed.

Camping romance — relaxing by the campfire, the first night surrounded by volcanoes!

We hope for a clear sky to watch the stars under the crackle of burning wood and the smell of ivan tea with rosehip boiling on the fire.

Tent camp: in the camp we will have 2-bed tents (separate tents are provided for single guests, there are 3-4-bed tents for families), a tent-kitchen, a large tent-dining room where we will eat, and in the evenings we will chat over a mug of tea or coffee from Turki. Crockery, camping furniture, a rug is provided. You can not take a warm sleeping bag and trekking poles with you, but rent them on the spot. Sanitary conditions in the camp: san.tent-toilet, camp washbasin.

Distances and duration: road: 65 km, 4-6 hours; walking distance: 3 km.

The entrance to the Kleshnya hill — from here the trail begins through the new lava flows of the 2012-2013 eruption. 

The briefing. Ascent to the slope of the Flat Tolbachik volcano up to 1800-2000 m (about 3 hours). Climbing to this height is enough not to waste extra energy and enjoy the panorama of the entire Tolbachinsky Valley, plowed by huge streams of already frozen lava and covered with a huge layer of slag for tens of kilometers around.

Fractured eruptions are characterized by the outpouring of large amounts of lava. They are also called "tourist" eruptions, because of the relative safety and photogenicity of the flowing lava rivers. This was the case in 2012: huge lava flows swept through the valley, filled up two scientific and tourist bases, streams with drinking water, roads and a nearby forest.

A walk along the frozen lava flow from the last eruption. Let's take a look into the lava caves with vaults up to 12 m.

Lunch — snack, hot tea. 

Moving to the "Dead Forest" destroyed by the eruption of the 70s. 

Once rich pastures and all vegetation within a radius of several kilometers were destroyed. These places have received the gloomy name "Dead Forest", where the dried-up treetops are visible from under a 7-meter layer of slag.

A stop near the place where the fragment of the crashed helicopter lies, giving this place even more drama. 

Return to the camp in the evening. Dinner, rest.

Transfer to Malki village (430 km). 

After overcoming the forest road (about 4 hours), we will make a stop for a snack and tea and continue on our way.

In the evening, arrival at the village of Malki. 

Accommodation in a private guest house "Goryachy Klyuch" with its own thermal pool.

This is the second transshipment point on the route. Civilization is still far away, but there is an opportunity to soak in the pool and clean up after a tent life and a tedious road! 

The house has 2-bed rooms, a cottage with 3-, 4-bed rooms, bathrooms, a dining room and a swimming pool, single occupancy is not provided.

If desired, you can walk to the wild thermal springs and swim in their healing mineral waters.

Distances and duration: road: 438 km, 10 hours.

Access to the Bystraya River to the starting point of the rafting. 

The Bystraya River is located in the central part of the peninsula. This is the second longest river in Kamchatka. 

In this fascinating journey, we will take part of the river on rafts, among picturesque places. Along the way, you can go fishing, pick mushrooms and berries, watch wild ducks, and if you are lucky, you can see a bear or a white-shouldered eagle. 

Instruction, equipment, and the beginning of rafting on inflatable 16-foot rafts. 

Guests are provided with life jackets, rubber boots, fishing gear for each participant (spinning, 3 spinners).

Experienced guides, operating rafts, talk about the peculiarities of local fishing and teach beginners the fishing craft. The entire route runs outside populated areas, among wild nature. 

The spawning river is a place of attraction for the brown bear. There is a possibility that we will see bears during the rafting.

The rafting time takes 3-3.5 hours on one of the sections of the Bystraya River from 153 km to the village of Malki. The length of the rafting is from 9 to 12 km. 

During the rafting, guests can fish and admire the picturesque scenery.

At the end of the rafting, the group is met by our car, transfer to the fishing base (about 10 minutes). 

At the fishing base, we will have a delicious lunch of traditional Kamchatka cuisine: welcome liqueur from Kamchatka berries, fish soup from fresh fish, salads and snacks from local wild plants. 

There will also be time to relax. 

Departure to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.

Return in the evening at about 18:00 hours. 

Accommodation in a 3* city hotel. 

Rest, free evening in the city. 

In the remaining days, we recommend visiting one of the restaurants in the city. If necessary, the tour guide will recommend restaurants that offer authentic Kamchatka dishes and seafood (it is better to book a table in advance).

08:00 Departure to the foot of the Koryak and Avacha volcanoes. 

Although the distance is small, the road is not easy. It runs along the bed of a dry river — frozen mud flows that descend in spring during snowmelt.

Flowering here begins immediately after the snow melts and continues until new snows. There are rare species of plants listed in the Red Book. 

Near the base camp, you can see and take pictures of Kamchatka gophers — evrazhek.

The fire—breathing guardian of the city is Avacha volcano, one of the most active in Kamchatka. The life of the volcano does not stop for a day: constantly puffing fumaroles, yellow sulfur, clouds of gas and steam.

The Avacha volcano arose several tens of thousands of years ago, and its regular cone was much higher than the Koryak volcano. But gigantic catastrophic explosions demolished its upper part and formed a caldera with a diameter of almost 4 km.

About 5,000 years ago, a new cone began to rise from the bottom of the caldera. The absolute height of the modern cone is 2751 m, the relative height is 400-1000 m. The peak is crowned by a crater. During the last eruption in 1991, the crater crater was almost completely filled with lava. 

Transfer to Halaktyrsky beach. 

A walk along the "black beach" and berry patch, watching the surf.

Here you can not only enjoy the waves, but also relax on the soft sand, listen to the sound of the surf and think about something important.

The sand on Kamchatka beaches is of volcanic origin, so it has a dark gray color. 

On the berry patch along the coastline in August-September, you can pick shiksha, blueberries, knyazhenika.
