A week on Shuya. Rafting

In our tours, for a long stay in nature, rafting requires physical training. The tours are designed for ordinary urban people who are ready for hiking conditions.

In May, the highest water level in the river, which means: powerful rapids, maximum impressions and adrenaline, but it is very cold, the rivers have just opened, snow lies on the banks, sad landscapes. The air temperature is +4-10°C. The water temperature is +3-6°C.

In June, high and medium water levels continue to persist, an excellent time for those who seek to enjoy passing the rapids. The air temperature is +15-20°C. The water temperature is +15-17°C. White nights.

In July, the water is already falling significantly, but the air temperature is +22-27°C. The water temperature is +21-24°C. White nights. There are few mosquitoes due to the heat.

In August, the water level in the rivers is low, there are a lot of stones on the rapids. There are a lot of mushrooms and berries in August, there are practically no mosquitoes. The daytime air temperature is +10-15°C. Dark, cold nights 0...+5°C. The water temperature is +15°C. Frequent precipitation.

The water in the river is dark, if you scoop it up with a cup, it looks like weakly brewed tea.

In fact, the water is clean, and the peat bogs surrounding the river give the brown color.

We will prepare our entire trip on this water.

There are not too many fish in the river, mainly pike and perch.

It is caught on a float rod and spinning.

Ticks and venomous snakes can be found on the route.

Ticks are active in May and early June, later it is a very rare case, so we recommend that you get vaccinated against tick—borne encephalitis and get an Anti-tick insurance policy.

It is rare on the Shuya River, but there are vipers that are poisonous, but the poison is not fatal.

Be sure to look at your feet when inspecting the rapids and walking through the forest.

The right choice of clothes: tuck your trousers into socks with elastic bands, put on boots or boots, fasten the cuffs and collar of your shirt.

Good protection is provided by overalls or windbreakers made of dense smooth fabric, preferably with a hood, which prevent ticks from crawling under clothes and reaching the skin.

Use tick repellents.

Examine yourself daily in the evening for the presence of a tick on the body (main places: head, neck, armpits, groin area).

The main points of preparation before the trip:

• in a couple of months, get vaccinated according to the scheme — 3 vaccinations before the start of the season;
• apply for an Antiklash insurance policy in any insurance company.

There is a steady signal throughout the entire route. Megafon and MTS operators have a better signal. 

Our main task is to have a safe vacation. Professional instructors know the route perfectly, all the obstacles on the rafting, the level of difficulty of thresholds in different waters, as well as all possible emergency exits from the route.

Before entering the active part of the route, a safety briefing is conducted. The tourist is obliged to exercise caution and personal safety on rafting in Karelia. Follow the rules set out in the TB instructions, follow the instructions and commands of the instructor.

In case of gross violations of the rules of conduct and safety rules, the tourist can be removed from any point of the route, without compensation.

Depending on the water level, the complexity of the thresholds varies. The instructor has the right to make a decision on the removal of dangerous areas, not to let unprepared or drunk participants into the threshold.

On the water, participants always wear life jackets, and when passing dangerous thresholds, they wear helmets.

For each rafting trip, we register a tourist group with the Ministry of Emergency Situations, which gives an additional guarantee of assistance in emergency situations. Also, before the tour, you can arrange travel insurance yourself.

If something happens to you on the route, an instructor will provide you with first aid, if necessary, we will take care of your evacuation to a medical facility as soon as possible. There is an opportunity to get off on each route due to an emergency.

The food is cooked over a campfire. Water is taken from lakes, streams, rivers and springs. Tourists participate in cooking under the strict guidance of an instructor.

The menu includes various soups, porridges, pasta, potatoes, seasonal vegetables, sausage, cheese, meat (stew), mayonnaise, ketchup, tea, coffee, condensed milk, butter, sugar, dried fruits, gingerbread, cookies, dried fruits, sweets, bread, mineral water.

Alcoholic beverages and snacks are not provided. Amateurs usually worry about this in advance.

Sometimes, based on the conditions of the route, lunch can be replaced with a snack (tea, sandwiches, sweets). The snack includes: bread, loaf, sausage, cheese, pate, sweets, peanuts.

If you are a vegetarian or you are allergic to any foods, please let us know in advance in order to make amendments and additions to the diet based on your wishes.

Neoprene wetsuit (3 mm thick) — necessary for May rafting or rafting in cold water + 10-15 degrees.

Neoprene half—overalls (2.5 mm thick) are ideal for rafting in spring, summer and autumn.

The jacket for water tourism is able to protect against wind and rain in the most severe weather.

Air and railway tickets are not included in the price of the tour. You can purchase them yourself or contact us for help.

The raft is much less maneuverable than a catamaran, so the raft may simply not fit into difficult narrow rapids with many turns.
The catamaran, thanks to its "agility", can skip all impassable areas.

The catamaran usually passes shallow rivers, rivers with difficult rapids (3-4 k.s.), where there are no long stretches (areas of calm water). In Karelia, these are the rivers: Umba, Pista, Tumcha, Keret, Tokhma, Kiten, Uksa, Loimala.

In the raft, the participants sit half-sideways on the balloon (their legs remain inside the raft). On a catamaran, the landing is knee—deep - tourists sit on balloons "on horseback", on special inflatable "seats", while their legs are fixed in special stirrups.

The catamaran is designed only for an even number of 2-4-6 rowers (teamwork does not play a mediocre role on this rafting facility), 8 participants can be put in the raft, while the main responsibility for
the exact passage of the threshold lies with the instructor.

After repacking things in a hermetic bag, some things may remain, including a backpack / bag.

Everything superfluous can be left to the driver, things will be delivered to the warehouse, after the rafting, things will be delivered to the finish line.

If you arrive at the route by car in Petrozavodsk, you can leave your car in the free parking lot at 15A Kommunalnaya Street.

A minibus will also be waiting for us there, which will take you to the starting point of the route.
