Ladoga skerries are the pearl of Karelia. Kayaking to uninhabited islands

Let's go on an adventure through the most picturesque corners of the Ladoga skerries! Dozens of islands, narrow channels, rocky shores and pine trees growing directly from the stone are waiting for us.

We will pass by the island of Koyonsaari with its amazing sandy beaches — as if we were in Karelian Bali. We will climb to the observation deck of the island of Monomakh's Cap with a breathtaking view of the skerries.

We will spend the night on a deserted island — this is a chance to live inside nature: we will pitch tents by the water, cook delicious food and meet the sunset with a mug of mulled wine.

The hike takes place among the skerries — islets that shield us from the wind. It is not only beautiful, but also comfortable. We go on modern frame kayaks with protective skirts and air bags — it is convenient, safe and thoughtful. No preparation is needed — we will show and teach right on the spot.

*Hiking trips for the May and June holidays start on Friday morning at 09:00, so they are slightly more expensive. But they give you a full three days on the water.

Itinerary

  • Day 1 - Meeting at the Parnas metro station and transfer to Lake Ladoga

The route starts on the shore of Ladoga, in the village of Vyatikkya.
You can get there yourself or take a transfer from St. Petersburg (4000 rubles round trip).

If you are traveling with a transfer, we will meet on Friday at 19:00 at the Parnas metro station. From this moment on, you are already on a hike: instructors meet you, help with the organization — and you can exhale and switch from the city to nature.

If you are traveling on your own, you need to arrive at the place before 23:00 on Friday (or before 12:00 if the hike starts in the morning, on May and June holidays).

The road passes through the Karelian forests and gradually leads away from the city, towards the water, silence and the feeling of real relaxation.

In the evening, we find ourselves on the shore of Ladoga, set up camp in an equipped campsite by the water, cook dinner, get acquainted and set up for a hike. The first night in tents, with the smell of water and pine needles. No rush, no communication, no unnecessary noise.

The route will start in the morning, but for now we just exhale and get used to Karelia.

    • It takes about 3-4 hours to get to Ladoga.
    • Overnight in tents at an equipped campsite.
  • Day 2 - Kayaking: Koyonsaari and skerries
  • Day 3 - Kayaking and returning home
Difficulty
Involves moderate physical activity
Tour organizer's comments

Formally, the route is assigned a difficulty of 1 out of 5, which means that there will be no heavy crossings with backpacks, all movements will be by kayaking or light on the islands. We have specially made this route accessible for those who want to try active recreation, even without hiking experience.

But you shouldn't relax at all. Three factors affect how easy or difficult a route will seem to you.:

  1. Weather. Rowing is a pleasure in a sunny calm, but headwinds and rain can add challenges.
  2. Your physical form. If you regularly walk, ride a bike, or exercise, everything will be much easier.
  3. Personal perception. The same route in the same group may seem like a walk to some, but a challenge to others. It is ok.

To feel comfortable, it is important to be prepared for 3-6 hours of rowing a day (with breaks), tent life, lack of showers and communication. But if you prepare based on our recommendations, you will succeed!

And most importantly, you won't be alone. You will have a team and experienced instructors with you: we will prompt, insure, and support you. We can do it together!

No special training is required — our route is perfect even for those who have never been in a kayak. Before starting the hike, we will tell you in detail and show you how to steer a boat, hold an oar, and act in different situations on the water. Whatever experience you have, you will definitely feel confident on the third day.

The main thing is basic physical fitness and readiness for outdoor activities: rowing for 3-6 hours a day with breaks, pitching a tent, helping in the parking lot, enjoying the wind, the sun, and sometimes the rain.

Objective requirements

To make the trip comfortable for you and the group, consider several technical limitations of Neva kayaks:

  1. The maximum weight of the participant is up to 110 kg. If your weight is close to this mark, write to us in advance and we will help you with the placement.
  2. Height — up to 200 cm. If you are very tall, there may be nuances with the landing. We will find the right place for you in the kayak.
  3. The total weight of personal items is no more than 12-15 kg. All equipment should be placed in one 120—liter pressure bag. Excess weight is discomfort on the water.
  4. We leave our suitcases and backpacks on the shore at the base. We put the things we need in the hiking bags (we will give them out at the meeting), and everything else can be left at the beginning of the hike and picked up at the end.

We work as a team, and the instructors are always there to help, provide backup, and support. Therefore, if you've been wanting to try kayaking for a long time, but haven't dared — this route is just the softest and safest start.
