Transfer to the Kivach Nature Reserve.
A walk, a tour of the waterfall, the nature museum and the arboretum of the reserve.
Kivach belongs to the geomorphological monuments of nature of federal rank.
The waterfall was the second largest plain waterfall in Europe (after the Rhine). The water falls in four ledges from a height of 10.7 m. The waterfall arose as a result of sawing through the waters of the Suna River of loose quaternary sediments to the roof of the diabase ridge.
Falling from the cliff, the stream deepened the riverbed in the thickness of lake loam and sandy loam below the ridge.
The first mention of him is found in a scribe's book for 1566: "On the Sun River under the Kivach threshold — tonya."
There are three versions of the origin of the waterfall's name: Russian — from the word "nod", Finnish — from the word kivi (stone), Karelian — from the word kivas (snow mountain). The latter interpretation is the most likely, since it most closely corresponds to a huge boulder, white with foam.
There is a Karelian legend about how Kivach was formed. The siblings of the Sunna and Shuya rivers flowed side by side for a long time, not wanting to part. Sunna gave her sister a more comfortable channel, and she lay down to rest and fell asleep. Waking up, Sunna ("dream") found that Shuya had run far ahead, and rushed to catch up with her, turning over and crushing rocks and rocks. A waterfall appeared at the place of the breakthrough of the greatest obstacle.
