Rafting on the Nizhny Shuya River

In Karelia, a wetsuit may be required when rafting on rivers, depending on the time of year, water temperature and weather conditions. 

Here are the main situations where its use is recommended: 

• cold water (spring and early summer). In spring and early summer (May-June), the water in the rivers of Karelia is very cold, often close to the temperature of melting snow. A wetsuit will help keep you warm and avoid hypothermia if you fall into the water.;
• In summer, if the weather is rainy or windy, the wetsuit will protect against hypothermia and discomfort. This is especially true for multi-day rafting trips, when it is not possible to dry clothes quickly.;
• difficult routes with a high risk of getting into the water;
• Rivers with rapids, strong currents, or technically difficult areas are more likely to be in the water. A wetsuit will ensure safety and comfort in such conditions.;
• autumn rafting (September-October).

The cost of renting a neoprene suit is 600 rubles per day per person. You must provide height and weight data so that suits can be booked and checked for you.

Meeting at 07:50 (Moscow time) at the Petrozavodsk railway station on platform No. 1 at the main building of the railway station, from the side of the platform, an instructor with a sign will be waiting for you. The meeting time may change if the train schedule is updated!

To get by train to rafting on the Shuya River, you need to buy tickets to Petrozavodsk with arrival in the morning at 07:50 (train 018A Karelia). 

Return tickets should be taken from Petrozavodsk in the evening at 20:00-23:00 or overnight (trains 091A, departure: 21:00, 017A, departure: 22:00).

If you arrive at the route by car in Petrozavodsk, you can park your car in the free parking lot at 15A Kommunalnaya Street. A minibus will also be waiting for us there, which will take you to the starting point of the route. 

Attention! The number of free parking spaces is limited, please arrive in advance!

After repacking things in a hermetic bag, some things may remain, including a backpack / bag.Everything superfluous can be left to the driver, the items will be delivered to the warehouse, after the rafting, the items will be delivered to the finish line.

Mobile communications are actively developing in the Republic of Karelia. MegaFon is the leader, MTS has a smaller coverage area, and Beeline customers on our routes are more often left without communication. For Tele2 subscribers, good communication is currently only in the Petrozavodsk area.

The food is cooked over a campfire. Water is taken from lakes, streams, rivers and springs. Tourists participate in cooking under the strict guidance of an instructor. The menu includes various soups, porridges, pasta, potatoes, seasonal vegetables, sausage, cheese, meat (stew), mayonnaise, ketchup, tea, coffee, condensed milk, butter, sugar, dried fruits, gingerbread, biscuits, dried fruits, sweets, bread, mineral water. Alcoholic beverages and snacks are not provided. Amateurs usually worry about this in advance.
