Itinerary

  • Day 1 - Arrival. Kostroma, the Snow Maiden's Tower, the museum of flax and birch bark

10:30-11:15 Meeting with a guide at Yaroslavl-Glavny Square, Yaroslavl (at the monument to S. Mamontov).

    Transfer to Kostroma (~70 km).

The beginning of the excursion program.

A travel tour — the Russian province holds incredible secrets and stories: we will remember the first female cosmonaut; one of the outstanding mathematicians of the twentieth century; a self-taught architect, whose creations are still an ornament of our cities; and find out why salt was worth its weight in gold.

Lunch at a cafe in the city.

    Sightseeing tour of Kostroma.

Kostroma is the pearl of the Golden Ring of Russia. A city with a centuries-old history and beautifully preserved architecture of the XVIII-XIX centuries.

You will see the central square of the city, affectionately called the "frying pan", an ensemble of shopping malls, offices, a fire tower, a guardhouse, a monument to the patriot of the Russian land, Ivan Susanin, the gazebo of A.N. Ostrovsky and much more.

Visit the Epiphany Cathedral on the territory of the second Kostroma Kremlin, where the most valuable Miraculous icon of the Fedorovskaya Mother of God is kept.

Interactive tour to the Snow Maiden's Cave with a visit to the ice room.

We have prepared a fabulous miracle for you — a meeting with the ice beauty Snow Maiden! Open the doors to the winter fairy tale and get to know the Snow Maiden personally.

In a cozy Chamber with carved patterns, she welcomes dear guests and shares the secrets of winter magic.

Fairy tales come to life here, and funny brownies create a mood.

A visit to the Holy Trinity Ipatievsky Monastery is one of the main spiritual symbols of Kostroma.

The history of the Romanov royal dynasty began here, and the silence of centuries and the breath of Orthodox tradition resound here.

You will visit the majestic Trinity Cathedral and see unique fresco paintings, learn about the fate of Mikhail Romanov, hear legends and historical facts that forever changed the course of Russian history.

A visit to the Museum of Flax and Birch Bark is an excursion to the heart of Kostroma crafts.

This is not just an exhibition, but a real journey through the centuries, where traditions, the smells of the village and the rustle of birch bark patterns come to life.

Here you will learn how elegant fabrics and clothes that can warm the soul are born from simple linen straw, and whole works of art are created from birch bark. Here, every object has a history and the warmth of the hands of craftsmen.

And in the store you can buy linen products from manufacturers at reasonable prices.

    18:30 Transfer to the hotel.

I’m grateful to the tour provider, overall, I really enjoyed the trip. My only comment is about the meals. For example, I don’t eat meat or dairy products, and when filling out the questionnaire, I clearly listed everything I strictly avoid. When I arrived at the café for lunch, I double-checked about getting a meat-free meal, and they assured me they had my information and would serve a suitable option. I trusted that, but after just a few spoonfuls of borscht, I found pieces of meat which was quite disappointing and irresponsible. As a result, I was left half hungry, since I could only eat a small piece of pollock with some potatoes and salad and the portions were very small. I also wasn’t happy with lunch at the Slavyansky restaurant: the borscht they planned to serve as a "meat-free" dish was clearly cooked in meat broth, so I had to refuse it. The portion of cod there was maybe about 100 grams, served with rice, so at least I didn’t stay completely hungry. In conclusion, I’d really like to see dietary requests taken more seriously. Some travelers may also have allergies, so if someone writes that they don’t eat certain foods, it’s important to pay close attention to that.
