In the 17th century, Russian explorers named the river Nizhnyaya Tunguska. 

The river originates on the eastern slopes of the Angarsk ridge in the Irkutsk region.

In its upper reaches, the Lower Tunguska comes close to the Lena riverbed, but a small elevation does not allow them to meet and connect. 

On its way, it overcomes several rapids in order to eventually, gathering the power of large tributaries, and near the city of Turukhansk, give its waters to the mighty Yenisei. 

There are many legends about Nizhny Tunguska, moreover, she is the main character of Vyacheslav Shishkov's novel "The Gloomy River". 

In 1911, Vyacheslav Yakovlevich, a famous Russian writer, a researcher of Siberian rivers, traveled through Nizhny Tunguska, after which the novel of the same name was born, which vividly reflects its special features and uniqueness. 

We will climb the famous rock – cliff of Lower Tunguska and contemplate the fascinating views from above. 

There are many legends about the cliff, as well as about the river. 

The local places open up to all travelers in a very mysterious and mysterious way. 

Next, we will admire the beautiful cascading waterfall, near which the Cinnabar appeared in the novel "The Gloomy River".

Sightseeing tour of Turukhansk. 

Turukhansk is located at the confluence of the Lower Tunguska with the Yenisei, 1,474 km north of Krasnoyarsk. Founded in 1607 as a winter quarters, since 1619 it has been inhabited by settlers of the burnt-out city of Mangazeya. 

In the 19th and 20th centuries, it was a place of exile (including I. V. Stalin in 1914-1916).

The Evenks had the name of the Hangar, which translates as "clean". 

The name came from these roots. 

There are many beautiful legends about the beautiful Angara, the only daughter of the old man of Lake Baikal, and the mighty handsome Yenisei. 

Baikal was against their wedding, following his fleeing daughter, he abandoned the palace, which was supposed to be her wedding gift. 

The palace fell apart into many fragments, they became the Strelkov threshold, and the largest stone is the Guard Island.
