Itinerary

  • Day 1 - The city above the Volga and the Oka

09:00 and 11:10 Meeting in the central hall of the Moscow railway station to the right of the main exit to the city near the Rospechat store.

Transfer to the hotel, things are checked into the luggage room.

Independent check-in at the hotel after 14:00 after the excursion program.

11:45 Gathering in the hotel lobby for a guided tour (it is possible to change the time of gathering for the tour. The time is specified at the meeting).

Bus and pedestrian sightseeing tour of Nizhny Novgorod "The city above the Volga and Oka" (duration 4.5 hours).

During a sightseeing bus and walking tour of Nizhny Novgorod, you will get acquainted with the history of the city, founded eight centuries ago.

You will see the main sights of Nizhny Novgorod: the Chkalovskaya Staircase, the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, the monument to M. Gorky, etc., visit the Stroganov (Christmas) Church, an architectural monument of the XVII century.

You will drive through historical streets that have preserved their beauty and former grandeur.: Malaya Pokrovskaya, Rozhdestvenskaya, Ilyinskaya, Verkhnevolzhskaya and Nizhnevolzhskaya embankments, visit Minin and Pozharsky Squares, Gorky Square, Sennaya Square, etc., visit observation decks offering "breathtaking" views of the Zarechnaya part of the city.

Nizhny Novgorod has the highest Volga embankment, and everyone can enjoy a wonderful view of the Volga expanses.

After the bus part of the tour, you will take an exciting walking tour of the Nizhny Novgorod Kremlin.

This is a unique military engineering structure of the early 16th century, which was one of the most important elements in the defense of the city. In the entire history of its existence, it has never been captured, despite numerous attempts.

The oldest Nizhny Novgorod Cathedral is located here – Mikhailo-Archangelsky (an architectural monument of the XVII century), it is in it that the ashes of the great Nizhny Novgorod resident Kozma Minin are buried.

From the Volga River, the Nizhny Novgorod Kremlin's ensemble resembles a "stone necklace thrown over the slopes of the woodpecker Mountains."

Next, you will have an excursion to the Voznesensky Pechersk Monastery.

The monastery was founded in 1328. The rich history makes this object one of the main attractions of the city and the country, this object is protected at the federal level.

Today, the monastery's ensemble covers more than 5 hectares and includes 5 churches, a bell tower and bishops' chambers.

The bell tower of the monastery is a rare type of ancient Russian belfries of the XVI century, and during its existence it acquired a large slope like the Leaning Tower of Pisa.

The Laurentian Chronicle, the oldest of the chronicles, was compiled within the walls of the monastery.

The excursion program will end with a cable car ride along the Nizhny Novgorod – Bor – Nizhny Novgorod route (in a circle without exit).

This road is notable for many reasons.

Firstly, it has the largest unsupported span over the water surface (the main channel of the Volga) in Europe - about 800 meters long.

Secondly, from the highest point there are magnificent views of Nizhny Novgorod and the flooded meadows of the Bor floodplain.

Thirdly, roads of this scale have never been built in central Russia before.

The tour ends on the cable car - free time, tourists get to the hotel on their own

Optional: City of Lights tour (1200 rubles/person). Duration: 3 hours (2 hours by bus + walking tour along Bolshaya Pokrovskaya Street. The program ends on Bolshaya Pokrovskaya Street), beginning at 19:00. It is ordered and paid for when booking the tour

The tour was very well organized. Transportation was always on time, and everything ran smoothly throughout the trip. The guides were excellent and made the excursions especially enjoyable with their engaging and informative stories. The highlights for me were Arzamas and the underground museum in Peshelan: both were truly fascinating and left a lasting impression.
