It's important to know

Personal equipment you need for the tour

A distinctive feature of our expeditions is an informal style of dress, but on luxury ships there is an evening dress code during dinner and at official events.

  1. Outerwear should be windproof and waterproof. Wool, silk, and some synthetic fibers such as fleece retain heat better than cotton.
  2. Avoid getting wet, which may be caused by precipitation, splashing sea water, or sweating.
  3. Do not take tight clothes with you that do not leave room for the air layer, which serves as an excellent insulator.
  4. Layering in clothing is the main rule of equipment for polar expeditions. It is better to wear several light garments than one very warm one. This will help you optimally adapt to temperature changes: it is always easier to take off a layer of clothing if you feel hot, or put on something else if it gets colder.
    • The base layer. Choose thermal underwear made of polypropylene or merino wool according to the temperature of the region and the planned activity level.
    • The middle layer. Woolen or fleece sweaters, longsleeves, and turtlenecks make up the middle layers of clothing. They can be worn both under the park on landings and on board the ship.
    • The top layer. Windproof and waterproof parka and trousers. The park can be single-layered (insulated with protection from wind and water) or double-layered (consisting of a warm base and an upper wind and water protection layer).
    • Shoes and accessories. Rubber boots (regular or insulated) are the most suitable option for expeditions. Take with you several pairs of gloves /mittens (some light, some warm waterproof, some spare), a hat, scarf / buff, several pairs of warm (for example, wool) and regular socks.

For landings:

  1. Thermal underwear (base layer).
  2. Sweaters/longsleeves/turtlenecks, sweatpants (middle layer).
  3. Waterproof trousers (top layer).
  4. Windproof and waterproof parka (top layer)*.
  5. Rubber boots (regular or insulated)*.
  6. Warm wool socks (several pairs) and regular socks for every day. Durable, high wool socks are recommended to be worn over thin socks.
  7. Gloves/mittens (1 pair of lightweight, 1 pair of insulated waterproof, 1 pair of spare). A scarf/buff (suitable for protecting the face from the wind).
  8. Hat (protecting the head and ears).
  9. Tourist seat.
  10. Sunglasses.
  11. Sunscreen.

For carrying on board:

  1. Comfortable casual clothes (trousers, jeans, T-shirts, sweatshirts, light sweaters).
  2. Comfortable shoes with non-slip soles (sneakers, boots).
  3. Evening wear for formal celebrations. There is a mandatory evening dress code on luxury ships.

Additionally:

  1. A small waterproof backpack for your camera and other necessary items for disembarkation.
  2. Binoculars.
  3. A bathing suit.
  4. The camera and the necessary accessories for it.
  5. Chargers, including portable ones.
  6. Adapter for sockets.
  7. Personal first aid kit.
  8. Reusable water bottle.

*On some ships, an expedition park is provided as a gift, and boots are available for rent. Check with your manager when booking.
