11:00 Guided tour of the Old Ladoga Fortress. Initially, the fortress was a settlement on the riverbank and over time its location assumed strategic importance.
Unlike the "northern" fortresses (Korela Fortress, Vyborg Castle), Staraya Ladoga is a "Russian" fortress surrounded by monasteries and churches.
On its basis, a typical ancient Russian city has developed, an example of which can be found both in movies and in books. Today, there is a museum of local lore in the Gate Tower of the fortress, and an Earthen hillfort behind the fortress wall.
On the territory there is one of the most elegant medieval temples – the Church of St. George (XII century). The church has preserved one of the most famous frescoes in the history of painting – “The Miracle of George about the Serpent” (it is possible to visit the church only if the weather is favorable).
One of the most famous sights of these places is the Prophetic Oleg mound. This mound, associated with the name of the legendary prince, attracts tourists, historians and lovers of antiquities from all over Russia.
Prophetic Oleg's mound is located on the right bank of the Volkhov River, not far from the Staroladozhskaya Fortress. According to the chronicles, it was in these places that the life of Prince Oleg, known for his military campaigns and the unification of Slavic lands, ended.
Legend has it that Oleg died from a snake bite that crawled out of the skull of his warhorse. This story, described in The Tale of Bygone Years, made the grave of the prince one of the most mystical places in Ancient Russia.
15 kilometers from Staraya Ladoga is a city called Novaya Ladoga with a population of just over 9 thousand people. The new city is being built on the site of a small settlement that exists around the Nikolo-Medvedsky monastery.
The new city became known as Novaya Ladoga, the former Ladoga became Old and lost its status as a city, becoming a village. The population of Ladoga was massively relocated to Novaya. By 1709, Novaya Ladoga had acquired the appearance of a real city.

15:30 Visit to the Bell Tower Museum. The Museum in the Bell Tower is a local history museum located in the bell tower of the Nikolo—Medvedsky Monastery.
The museum's exposition is located on three floors of the bell tower and includes items of church utensils, vestments, archaeological finds, household items and books.
On the fourth floor there is an observation deck with views of the Volkhov River and Lake Ladoga.
