It is a rocky outcrop extending far into the sea and ending in 40-meter walls.

In September 1943, the Spanberg Lighthouse was built on this cape, named after the captain who discovered more than three dozen islands of the Kuril Ridge in the 18th century, including Shikotan. 

It became the last lighthouse built by the Japanese on the Kuril Islands.
