Day 4 - Goritsy
With the opening of the Volga-Baltic Canal, this place became known to thousands of people thanks to the ensemble of the Goritsky Voskresensky Convent (1544). In the small village of Goritsy, located on the shore of the Sheksna, 8 km from the city of Kirillov, there is a river pier, from where a bus tour to the Kirillo-Belozersky monastery (1397) begins. The main attraction of Kirillov lies through the unique national park "Russian North". On its territory is Mount Maura, on top of which lies a huge stone. The tour includes a visit to the exhibitions in the Refectory. The Kirillo-Belozersky Museum-Reserve preserves unique monuments associated with the name of St. Cyril. A fur coat, a hood, a leather belt, a bucket in a case and chains dating from the 14th – 15th centuries – all this, according to legend, belonged to the founder of the monastery. All the relics have exceptional historical value as material evidence of the daily life of the great ascetic and are presented in the museum exposition.

Separate complexes of the exposition are devoted to monastic economy, obediences and reflect the monks' occupations, their activities not only inside the monastery, but also outside the monastery walls. In the display cases, one can see the contributions of grand dukes and royalty, as well as exhibits that introduce visitors to the history of the Nilo-Sora desert, the Kirillo-Novoezersky and Goritsky monasteries.
