Day 1 - The beginning of the journey
Departure from the port at 14:00.
A trip to the open sea and a welcome lunch.
In the evening, we will see the fabulously beautiful Japanese lighthouse on Cape Aniva on the left side.

Day 2 - Arrival on Kunashir. Golovnin Volcano
We will spend two whole days on Kunashir Island.
Today we are interested in Golovnin volcano, the southernmost volcano in the archipelago.
On this day, we will descend right into the center of the caldera!
The final point of trekking is Hot and Boiling lakes.
Their names are deceptive. Only the mud cauldrons adjacent to the second lake are boiling, and volcanic gases are periodically released here and there — the same fumarolic activity that we are already familiar with in Iturup.
Swimming in Boiling water is strictly forbidden! The sulfur contained in the gases combines with heavy metal salts and arsenic.

Day 3 - Cape Columnar
There are about 70 volcanoes in the Kuril Islands, but the amazing Cape Columnar is only on Kunashir.
The basalt lava from the volcano, which erupted several million years ago, solidified in the form of numerous five- and hexagonal stone "rods".
Tightly fitting to each other and unevenly collapsing, these "rods" (they can also be compared to pillars or columns) seem to be the result of the painstaking work of ancient and very skilled masons.
Sometimes they resemble an organ in a Catholic cathedral, sometimes they resemble the pavement of a medieval city.

Day 4 - Iturup Island
The main character of this day is the island of Iturup, the largest in the entire Kuril Archipelago.
Iturup Island is the largest in the Kuril Islands (with an area of about 3,000 square kilometers, which is about 850 times larger than the smallest island in our path, Yankich).
Here we are interested in White rocks and thermal springs.
The white Cliffs are a strip of steep coast formed by volcanic pumice that stretches for almost 30 km.
Soft pumice is constantly eroded: winds, rains and storms change the bizarre shapes of the rocks from year to year, and their white color effectively contrasts with the local dark gray sand.
The thermal springs are located at the foot of the Baransky volcano and are connected to its fumarole field (fumaroles are cracks on the volcano's slope from which gases and vapors escape).
A stream of hot water spreads over numerous bathtubs and tubs — created by nature, but ennobled by man.
The closer to the source, the higher the water temperature.
In the uppermost containers, the water is constantly boiling — you won't swim there, but you can, for example, boil a chicken egg.

Day 5 - Chirpoi and Simushir Islands
Unlike the previous days, today we will visit two whole islands — Chirpoi and Simushir.
In the morning, Professor Khromov will stop at Chirpoi Island, a small island that contains two volcanoes, several rookeries of sea lion seals and colorful bird markets.
We will sail up to the rocky shores on Zodiac rubber boats and take a good look at everything.
In the afternoon, we will disembark in the central part of Simushir Island to make trekking to Zavaritsky volcano.
Your efforts will be rewarded with a magnificent panorama of the caldera, filled with water and transformed into a lake.
If we're lucky and the air is clear, we can also see the entire middle part of the Great Kuril Ridge.
We will spend the night in a raid off the coast of Simushir, because this island is worthy of another landing.

Day 6 - The northeastern tip of Simushir and Yankich Island
We will dedicate today to the northeastern tip of Simushir and Yankich Island.
Here is Broughton Bay, another ex-caldera, this time connecting to the ocean.
The entrance to the bay is very convenient, in Soviet times it was expanded with explosives so that large warships could enter here.
Since Broughton Bay is the most sheltered place in the entire archipelago, it is ideal for basing the navy, and there was also a military settlement on its shore, which has now turned into a ghost town.
We will sail into the bay on the Zodiac, explore its shores and the buildings of the village. Those who wish can go fishing from boats right in the center of the flooded caldera.
In the evening, Kraternaya Bay on Yankich Island awaits us — one of the visiting cards of the Kuril Archipelago, the quintessence of man-made beauty.
The central part of the small island, less than 3 km in diameter, is occupied by the caldera of an extinct volcano, which, due to the destruction of the southern wall, turned into a bay filled with ocean water (like Broughton Bay, which we examined the previous day). There are two mini-islands in the center of it, and around it there are emerald shores with thermal springs.
We will sail into the Crater Bay on the Zodiac — like the discoverers who found a brave new world.
The acoustic background will be the hubbub of many seabirds that have chosen the island of Yankich.
The local bird market boasts rare species such as the red-throated seahorse, the great snail, the winterjar, the horse and the peregrine falcon.

Day 7 - Krenitsyn Volcano
Our current target is the Krenitsyna volcano on Onekotan Island.
It is the second "star" of the archipelago and one of the most beautiful and unusual volcanoes on the planet.
Imagine: a giant (17 km in diameter) caldera of an ancient volcano is filled with a lake, and another perfectly symmetrical volcano grows right out of it.
To see this splendor firsthand, you will have to work a little.
Today we will have the most energy-consuming trekking of the entire cruise: 15 km in both directions with an altitude difference of 600 m.

Day 8 - Paramushir Island
We disembark on Paramushir Island in Krasheninnikov Bay.
From here, several volcanoes will be visible at once, but it will be difficult for us to look away from the nearest one — Fuss.
This tall handsome man is 400 meters higher than the Krenitsyna volcano (the total "height" is more than 1.7 km above sea level) and has almost the same regular conical shape.
Next to him, it feels like you're inside a Japanese print that has come to life.
We will take a walk along the shores of Paramushir on the Zodiac and approach the giant bird markets from the water.
If a whale or killer whale swims up to us, don't worry, they won't even touch our boat.
In the evening, "Professor Khromov" will approach the small island of Antsiferova, so that we can admire its picturesque shores and one of the largest sea lion rookeries on the Kuriles.

Day 9 - Atlas Island
Atlasov Island is the northernmost island in the Great Kuril Ridge, and it is home to the highest Kuril volcano, Alaid (about 2.3 km above sea level).
We will complete our acquaintance with the Kuril Archipelago by landing on Atlasov Island.
Mighty Alaid is located here, the highest volcano in the Kuril Islands, whose "height" is about 2.3 km above sea level.
It would be difficult to climb to the top, so we'll walk along the side craters (yes, yes, a volcano can have more than one crater).
The first of them is called the "Olympic Breakthrough", it was formed relatively recently, in 1972, exactly during the Olympic Games in Munich, after which it got its name. The name of the second crater is Taketomi.

Day 10 - Russian Bay
Hello, Kamchatka!
Today we are anchoring in front of the entrance to Russian Bay.
The shores of the bay, which are almost parallel to each other, are covered with dense forest, from which brown bears come ashore during the spawning season.
We will explore the bay on Zodiac rubber boats: we will sail up to a small rookery of sea lion seals and see the skeletons of abandoned ships.

Day 11 - Completing the journey
In the morning we enter Avacha Bay, the largest natural harbor in the world.
Disembarkation at 08:00.

high-top trekking boots and winter boots. This is the main protection of your feet from injury when traveling over rough terrain, climbing mountains on rocky slopes and steep descents. Properly chosen shoes are the key to comfort on the route. It is best to take discarded shoes on the tour, otherwise we strongly recommend that you stock up on a Band-Aid.
warm winter jacket with a membrane (for northern cruises).
an additional comfortable pair of shoes (sneakers, boots). In the evening, after an active day, your feet should rest, and your trekking shoes should dry.
waterproof trousers and a membrane jacket. In the absence of such, in addition to outerwear, be sure to take a waterproof raincoat ("raincoat").
