Rafting and fishing on the Okhta River in Karelia

Mosquitoes and midges are present, but there are usually few of them, their number depends on the weather, the time of year and the area. Insects do not bother on the water. There are no ticks or venomous snakes on the route.

There is a Megafon and MTS connection on the route. Catches, however, on a smaller part of rafting on the Okhta River.

Our main goal is to have a safe vacation. Professional instructors perfectly know the route, all the obstacles on the rafting trip, the difficulty level of the rapids in different waters, as well as all possible emergency exits from the route. 

For each rafting trip, we register a tourist group with the Ministry of Emergency Situations, which provides an additional guarantee of assistance in emergency situations. Even before the tour, you can arrange travel insurance yourself.

To get by train to rafting on the Okhta River, you need to buy tickets to Kem (Moscow — Kem, arrival at 1:26) on the day of arrival. Gathering of the group at the train station according to the last arrival (you can get information on the arrival of other participants from the managers). 

Return tickets should be taken from the Kem station after 18:00 on the day of the end of the tour.

We recommend visiting the Solovetsky Islands after rafting on the Okhta River. Please specify the details when booking.

Rafting is not difficult in terms of load, but the river is located in a remote area. If you need to leave the route, calling a transport will be very expensive, so the tour is not recommended for kids. The minimum age is from 10 years.

The cloudberry season begins in late June and early July. Blueberries and mushrooms (podosinoviki, podberezoviki, white) begin in July. Lingonberries begin to ripen in early August. Mushroom rush in autumn.

Excellent spinning fishing on the Okhta River, mainly pike and perch are caught. There is grayling near the rapids.

The water in the Okhta River is the purest and, accordingly, transparent, visible for many meters — it is a paradise for underwater hunters. If you have spearfishing equipment, feel free to take it! Perhaps you'll get lucky on the Okhta River.

Most of the route is dominated by pine forests and swamps, with rocky shores and high sandy beaches in places. There are 9 different scenic lakes on the route.

The weather in this area is not much different from the weather in St. Petersburg and Moscow. In July and August, the average weather is dry and hot, with temperatures of +20-30 degrees. You need to be prepared for the fact that it may rain in Karelia for several days. In this case, the temperature drops to +10-15 degrees, and the water in the river also becomes cold.

In Karelia, a wetsuit may be required when rafting on rivers, depending on the time of year, water temperature and weather conditions. 

Here are the main situations where its use is recommended: 

• cold water (spring and early summer). In spring and early summer (May-June), the water in the rivers of Karelia is very cold, often close to the temperature of melting snow. A wetsuit will help keep you warm and avoid hypothermia if you fall into the water.;
• In summer, if the weather is rainy or windy, the wetsuit will protect against hypothermia and discomfort. This is especially true for multi-day rafting trips, when it is not possible to dry clothes quickly.;
• difficult routes with a high risk of getting into the water;
• Rivers with rapids, strong currents, or technically difficult areas are more likely to be in the water. A wetsuit will ensure safety and comfort in such conditions.;
• autumn rafting (September-October).

You must provide height and weight data so that suits can be booked and checked for you.

Tribord 100/500 neoprene suits are used for alloys – basic neoprene models (3.5 mm thick). JOSS Active – universal alloy models (3.5 mm).

Neoprene boots, socks, gloves are not provided.
