Tula was first mentioned in the Nikon Chronicle of the XVI century under the year 1146. The cultural heritage sites located on the territory of the city are of great value and are an integral part of the world cultural heritage.

By the middle of the 17th century, when the fortified border of the Russian state moved south, Tula was gradually turning from a fortress city into a commercial and industrial center.

In October-December 1941, for 45 days, Tula was almost completely besieged, subjected to artillery and mortar fire, and air raids by Nazi aircraft. Under the blows of the Red Army, the enemy retreated to the south, and the siege of Tula was lifted.

The highest degree of distinction "Hero City" with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal was awarded to the city of Tula in 1976 for the mass heroism and courage of its defenders shown in the struggle for freedom and independence of the Motherland in the Great Patriotic War.

The literary and musical program "Unknown Tolstoy" is a meeting with the "revived" contemporaries of Leo Tolstoy, his characters and himself.

And it takes place in a unique building - an architectural monument of the XX century, the House of the Noble Assembly. Lev Nikolaevich visited here more than once, and his play "Fruits of Enlightenment" was staged here.

Traveling through the museum halls of the Noble Assembly, the guests of the program will discover new facets of Tolstoy's work and personality, learn about his family life, relationships with relatives and friends-writers – and how personal experiences and impressions are melted into the artistic fabric of a literary work.

The program will feature music by Russian and foreign composers performed by artists of the Tula Philharmonic.

Transfer to Kozlov Zaseka railway station (14 km).

Guided tour of the Kozlov Zaseka railway station. This station was the closest to the estate of Leo Tolstoy "Yasnaya Polyana". A writer came to the station to make a phone call, all his mail arrived here, his guests arrived, and it was at this station that the funeral train with the writer's coffin arrived in 1910.

In the very center of central Russia, with its low–key but surprisingly touching nature, Yasnaya Polyana manor is located - just as modest, but beautiful and majestic in its simplicity. Leo Nikolaevich Tolstoy was born in Yasnaya Polyana and lived most of his life.

His own world began here, and the world of his works and characters was born here. It was here that his only favorite home was, the nest of his family and clan.

The Yasnaya Polyana Estate Museum is a memorial and nature reserve. When we arrive here, we find ourselves in the very Tolstoy manor, which Lev Nikolaevich and his family wrote about in their diaries and letters, and which the guests of Yasnaya Polyana admired so much.

Transfer to Melikhovo.

Chekhov's Melikhovo is one of the best pages in the history of Russian literature.

Anton Pavlovich Chekhov lived here for seven years, from 1892 to 1899. The course of Melikhovo's life is interesting because not only a writer lived here, but also a doctor who received a huge number of patients for free, fought cholera; a public figure, a school builder.

A large number of acquaintances, events in the villages and the "county town of S." – all these are plots of Chekhov's works of the Melikhov era. During this time, he created 42 masterpieces: the plays "Uncle Vanya" and "The Seagull", short stories and novellas "Ward No. 6", "Sakhalin Island", "House with a mezzanine", "My Life", "The Man in the Case", "Gooseberry", "About Love", "Men" and others.

In 1899, Anton Pavlovich left for Yalta for health reasons. Melikhovo was sold.

For a long time there was no museum here, but the Melikhovskaya estate has always attracted admirers of Chekhov's talent.

The museum in Melikhovo began its life in 1940.

By this time, one of the memorial buildings had been preserved, built by Anton Chekhov in 1894, where he wrote the play "The Seagull".

Currently, the Museum-Reserve includes: the main manor house, a memorial wing, a kitchen wing, a sauna, numerous outbuildings, a fire shed, an exposition of an ancient outpatient clinic, and a large garden area.

Two schools built by A.P. Chekhov have been preserved. In the 1970s, they were transferred to the museum.

The acquaintance with the surroundings will continue with a sightseeing tour of Chekhov.

Historians believe that the city on the site of present-day Chekhov existed many centuries ago.

The first mention of the city of Lopasne is found in a document dated 1175.

This city changed hands many times between the warring Russian princes, Ivan Kalita bequeathed it to his son Andrei, after whose death the Ryazan princes actively claimed ownership of the city.

Lopasnya is also associated with the name of A.S. Pushkin. N.N. Pushkin often visited here with her children with relatives of her second husband P. Lansky. Alexander Pushkin's son and daughter Maria Alexandrovna lived for a long time as adults.

In 1954, the village of Lopasnya was transformed into a city of regional subordination of the Czechs.

In 1987, the Chekhov Museum of Letters department was opened in Chekhov.
