Staritsa is a beautiful ancient Russian town in the upper reaches of the Volga, sweet to the eye, calm, simple and sincere. The city is located on the high banks of the Volga and pleases the eye with white stone buildings. A visit to the Assumption Monastery, founded in the XII century and now being revived.
The Holy Dormition Monastery became the first link in the history of the founding of the Staritsa.
Departure to Rzhev. Rzhev stands among the spurs of the Valdai upland, on the steep banks of the Volga. The favorable geographical location created excellent conditions for the development of trade. But the proximity to the western borders of the Russian lands gave the city an important defensive importance. During the XIII-XIV centuries, the life of the fortress city was very difficult. The owner of Rzhev became the owner of both a powerful fortress and part of an important trade route.
On the right bank of the Volga, ancient mansions of the XVIII century have been preserved. One of them now houses the Rzhev Museum of Local Lore. A tour of the museum. Expositions telling about the ancient history of Rzhev occupy both floors of an ancient merchant's mansion.
The tragic page of Rzhev's history was the years of the Great Patriotic War. The Battle of Rzhev, which lasted more than a year, became one of the bloodiest in human history.
Visit to the most interesting thematic exposition of the Diorama "The Battle for Rzhev on September 24, 1942". This work of monumental painting tells about one of the battles, reflecting a modern view of the fighting in the Rzhev area.
Visit to the Rzhev Memorial to the Soviet soldier. The largest monument in the history of modern Russia, designed to perpetuate the memory of the heroes of the Great Patriotic War. The center of the memorial is a 25-meter bronze figure of a soldier mounted on a 10-meter mound.
