We invite you to an exciting winter road trip along the Kolyma Federal highway from Yakutsk to Oymyakon!

We are waiting for a trip along one of the most beautiful trails, a meeting with Yakut horses, ice fishing and a trip to Oymyakon — the Pole of Cold, the coldest settlement on Earth.

Individual arrivals are possible on any date upon request, the recommended period is December – March.

Itinerary

Day 1 - Yakutsk — Khandyga
09:00-10:00 Departure from the hotel, depending on the readiness of the group.
We cross the Lena River from Yakutsk to Nizhny Bestyakh via an ice crossing.
We make a stop for a group photo.
We stop on the opposite bank on a hill and look at the winter landscape of the river and Yakutsk under a white blanket of fog.
We pass traditional Yakut villages.
Photo stops at important places.
Stops at the cafe for lunch (meals are not included, payment is made on site).
In the evening we cross the Aldan River by an ice crossing.
Stop for dinner at a cafe-restaurant in Khandyga (not included, payment on site).
The distance from the center of Yakutsk to Khandyga: 432 km (according to our GPS track here and further).
The average speed, taking into account stops at road cafes and photo shoots: 50 km/h.
Travel time: 8-10 hours.
Accommodation: in Khandyga in an apartment.

Day 2 - Khandyga — Teply klyuch — Kyubeme — Tomtor — Oymyakon
08:00 Departure.
On the way, we make stops on the Kolyma Federal highway:
Breakfast time at the cafe-restaurant in Khandyga (not included, payment on site);
photo stop at the bank of the Aldan river at sunrise;
visit to the Museum of the History of the Gulag in the village of Teply Klyuch, 70 km from Khandyga;
before the beginning of the Verkhoyansk Mountains photo stop / selfie;
at the memorial cross to the victims of the Stalinist regime;
on the Yellow and Black clamps, which once thrilled motorists, as well as after the Hare Loop and before the Swallow's Nest;
at the famous Kuba cafe in Kyubem for a late lunch;
at the gas station in Tomtor for refueling (40 km to Oymyakon).
In fact, we make more stops.
Distance from Khandyga to Oymyakon: 514 km.
Average driving speed: 40 km/h.
Travel time: 10-12 hours.
Accommodation: private house in Oymyakon or guest house in Tomtor.
Meals included: dinner in Oymyakon/Tomtore.

Day 3 - Oymyakon
A visit to the stella "Oymyakon — the Pole of Cold" with the Bull of Winter, where we will meet the fabulous character of Yakut mythology Chyskhaan (Holder of Cold) and receive from his hands Certificates of visiting the coldest settlement on Earth.
A tour of the village with a possible visit to cultural and educational institutions.
Swimming in an ice hole on the Indigirka River (only on request, for an additional fee) using an equipped staircase and a heated tent.
Traditional ice fishing on the Indigirka River (checking the seine).
An evening of Yakut culture at the national House of Archa or the rural house of culture.
Experiments at any free time: freezing vodka, washed clothes, exploding boiling water in the air crackling with frost, etc.
The order of activities may change depending on the work schedule of the local population.
Accommodation: in Oymyakon/Tomtore is in the family.
Meals included: breakfast, lunch and dinner with a family in Oymyakon/Tomtore.

Day 4 - Oymyakon — Tomtor — Khandyga
Early breakfast.
08:00 Departure from the guest house in Oymyakon.
A memorable photo with a hospitable hostess.
Check-in at the Yakut horse breeding farm (a unique northern breed) in the Tomtor area.
A visit to the Chishaan Residence gallery with giant crystal formations on the walls and ceiling, as well as ice sculptures installed in 2004, including.
A visit to the ice-free Kuidusun River and the frozen airport during the winter.
Refueling in the Reactor.
Travel to Kyubume. We will see beautiful winter landscapes that were hidden in the dark on the way to Oymyakon.
Passing the Suntar, Agayakan and Tirakh-yuryakh rivers, we will see old wooden bridges.
Arrival to the nomadic reindeer herders in the area of the village of Yuchyugey or Kyubyume for reindeer sledding along the Oymyakonya valley (optional). Check-in is carried out only if they are close to the highway.
Stop for lunch at the Kuba cafe in Kyubyum (not included, payment on site).
Passage through the Verkhoyansk ridges at sunset.

Stop for dinner at the Alaska cafe in Teply Klyuch or at a cafe in Khandyga (not included, payment on site).
Arrival in Khandyga in the evening.
The distance to Khandyga is 514 km.
Arrival to the reindeer herders: additional 5-10 km.

Travel time: 12-14 hours.
