The road that was built by Gulag prisoners in the 40s and 50s of the 20th century begins from the village of Khandigi. During these years, camps were set up along the road every 20-30 km. Winding through the high mountains, the route passes through the Tomporuksky ranges, Rocky Mountains and Suntar-Khayata.

Mountain passes in this area: Tomporunsky, Cherny Prizhim.

In this section, the road runs along the Vostochnaya Khandyga River. There are stops at picturesque and memorable places on the way: Tomporuksky, Shaman Creek, Black Pinch, Rabbit Loop.

Soon, the road departs from the Eastern Khandiga, and the climb gradually begins.

As we approach the border of the Lena and Indigirka River basins, we enter the mountain tundra zone. This is the watershed of two large rivers.

Stop at a maximum altitude of 1,311 meters.

There is a branch road to Oymyakon from the area of the Kuba gas station. Tomtor is 156 km away from here.

In the village of Tomtor, accommodation in a guest house.

In the guest house, the facilities are located inside the house. There is a sauna.

The length of the car route is 481 km, 10-12 hours on the way.

Tomtor is known for the fact that in 1926 S.V. Obruchev carried out temperature measurements here. As a result of observations, Sergey Vladimirovich found that the air temperature in the winter months was lower than the Verkhoyansk temperature by an average of 3.4 degrees.

Then he concluded that in 1885, when an air temperature of -67.8 degrees Celsius was recorded in Verkhoyansk, the temperature could reach -71.2°C. Since 1929, the first regional weather station began operating in the village, and on 02/06/1933, the station recorded -67.7 °C.

A little later, the station was moved 2 km southwest of its former location. Other events that played a significant role in the development of the village were the construction of the Magadan—Khandyga highway and, as a result, the construction of the airport, which became the first Yakut airport to serve aircraft transported from the United States to Krasnoyarsk.

Visit to the Underground residence of the Lord of Cold — Chyskhan.

11:00 Departure to the village of Oymyakon. Tomtor is 40 km from Oymyakon.

The journey time to Oymyakon is 1 hour.

There is currently a weather station in the village of Oymyakon. Since Oymyakon is located lower in sea level than Tomtor, the air in the Oymyakon lowland is colder than in Tomtor.

• program "Visiting the Lord of the Cold": Yakut rite "Algys", photo gallery "Beauty of Oymyakon";
• visit to the horse breeding base. The tour participants will see Yakut horses in the pens here.;
• 14:00 — program of the Oymyakon Village House of Culture;
• visit to the Indigirka River. In winter, a heated cabin is installed here, which is used by "walruses" — extreme bathers. If desired, tour participants can test themselves for an additional fee.

Return to Tomtor.

08:00 Departure from the village. Today we are returning to the Kolyma federal highway.

A reindeer herding brigade is located 30 km from the intersection. A reindeer caravan with sleds will be waiting for us here. The riding time is 40-50 minutes.

This is an exciting action that gives the participants of the tour an opportunity to get in touch with the life and everyday life of reindeer herders of the North.

Lunch at the Kuba roadside cafe.

Mountain passes in this area: Bryungyadinsky, Olchansky. There are stops for photographing at the passes.

After descending from the pass, the route crosses the Indigirka River. There's a bridge crossing here.

The village of Ust-Nera is located across the bridge 2 km away.

Ust-Nera is the "golden" capital of the northeastern part of Yakutia. In Ust-Nera, hotel accommodation.

A gastro-dinner "Oymyakon" will be held today with a visit to the Museum of local lore.

The car route is 393 km long.

Today, the road follows the Nera River for a long time. There is active gold mining here.

After 92 km, in the area of the bridge over the Burustakh River, there is a branch of the winter road to Chukotka. Stop for taking photos.

The village of Artyk is located at 1101 kilometers. In Soviet times, the village was a base for gold mining enterprises, and a powerful highway company was located here. Now all this is gone, and only the preserved buildings of those times convey the spirit of a bygone era.

We have an early lunch planned here in the cafe of the village.

Then, 45 km from the village, the road crosses the border of Yakutia and the Magadan region. The Delankir weather station is located here, which currently records the lowest temperatures in Yakutia.

The road is gradually gaining altitude, and we are approaching the Kolymo-Indigirsky pass. Starting from this pass, we enter the possession of the famous Kolyma!

The abandoned Kadykchan urban-type settlement, known to travelers as the "ghost town", is located 50 kilometers from here.

Kadikchan was "mothballed" in 2001, and finally abandoned in 2010. The branch road to Kadykchan is not maintained by road workers, and it is often swept away by wind and snow. The car stops moving at this point. For this reason, the participants of the tour should be ready to walk to Kadikchan, which will require "walking" through deep snow. The trail is 3.5 kilometers long, with a round trip of 7 kilometers.

After returning from the "pawn", tea, a snack.

Further along the way, the road will pass through the Argakalinsky pass, but we will pass it in the dark.

Arrival in Susuman at 19:30-20:00.

The car route is 391 km long.

At the beginning of the journey, the road crosses the beautiful Burkhalinsky pass. If you're lucky, you can see the sunrise in the mountains here.

The village of Yagodny is located 106 km from Susuman. There is a museum here, created by local historian Ivan Panikarov, which we must visit. The museum contains a huge amount of material on the history of the Gulag.

Next, the route goes along the Debin River and after 74 km it will cross one of the major rivers on the route — the Kolyma.

Lunch at the Laryukovaya roadside cafe.

From here, the road enters the mountains again, and the Gerbinsky, Dedushkina Lysina, Chernoozersky, Yablonevy, and Karamkensky passes follow one after the other.

After passing through these passes, the route enters the Sea of Okhotsk basin, and the tour participants will immediately feel the warming of the air temperature.
