Itinerary

  • Day 1 - The way to Khandyga

For acclimatization, we recommend arriving in Yakutsk the day before the tour. Accommodation in the Sterkh and Azimut hotels is recommended. The hotels are located in the city center.

08:00 Meeting with the tour participants who arrived on the day of the start of the tour at the airport.

The entrance to the city is for the tour participants who arrived the day before (with arrivals at the hotels).

    Short city tour:

    1. Kilometer zero. Kilometer zero is located on Ordzhonikidze Square. Historically, Yakutsk was an outpost of the development of new lands in the Far East. From here, all expeditions to the northeast of the continent, to the Amur (Poyarkov and Khabarovsk expeditions) and to North America (Bering expeditions) began.
    2. Republic Square. Republic Square is the heart of Yakutia. There are 12 columns on the square, symbolizing the Yakut hitching post – serge. Serge is a symbol of the hospitality of the Yakut people.
    3. Fish market. The fish market is the only market on our planet operating in extremely cold temperatures. Almost all the fish of Yakutia are represented on the market: chir, omul, muksun, pelad, nelma. You can also buy taimen here.

    The beginning of the journey.

Today you will find two ice crossings across the Lena (15 km) and Aldan (1.5 km) rivers.

After 73 km, stop for lunch at a roadside cafe in the village of Tyngulyu.

Tungyulu village is located on a unique permafrost landscape — on the Alas. Alas is formed by pulling out underground ice (thermokarst), shrinkage of soil and rocks, suffusion, karst, etc. The lowlands of Alas are usually covered with a swampy lake, and the slopes with meadow—steppe vegetation. Today, the road is rich in sculptures. Many of them are dedicated to the heroes of the epic and the tales of the Sakha people. We will make a stop at one of them, the sculpture of the hero Nyurgun Bootur.

The village of Khandyga is the center of the industrial Tomponsky district. The former territory of Dalstroy begins from the Aldan River, on which the village is located. The settlement was founded in 1938 as a base for the construction of the Kolyma highway in the direction of Magadan. During World War II, an airfield was built here for the Alaska-Siberian air route, along which American Lend-Lease aircraft were delivered to the Eastern Front.

Overnight you will stay in the guest house of the village.

The length of the car route is 431 km, 8-9 hours on the way.
