Itinerary

  • Day 1 - Salekhard is a city on the Arctic Circle

    The order of days may change due to weather conditions.
    The time difference from Moscow is +2 hours.

    The transport part of the route is a minibus.

    08:00 We will meet you at Salekhard airport.

    08:45 On the way from the airport, we stop at the 66th Parallel stele, hold a solemn ceremony of crossing the Arctic Circle with the presentation of personal certificates and take unique photos.

    The 66th Parallel stele is a geographical feature of the city, it is located just where the Arctic Circle passes. It was first installed in 1980 in a completely different part of the city, but in 2003 the error was sorted out. Salekhard's geological and geodetic supervision staff was invited to determine the correct line of the Arctic circle. The monument was dismantled and installed near the Airport-Salekhard highway. Now everything is accurate!

    09:30 We check into the hotel "Arctic" 3* in the historical part of the city. Relax after the flight or take a walk. There are many good restaurants near the hotel. We will definitely tell you where you can have a delicious lunch.

    14:15-15:45 We begin our acquaintance with a sightseeing tour of Salekhard.

    Let's see what:

    • Obdorsky prison.  Let's take a walk through the open-air architectural complex, which repeats the appearance of an ancient fortress. The complex is new, but built using traditional technology without a single nail. Obdorsky ostrog marked the beginning of modern Salekhard and at the time of its foundation in 1593 was the northernmost in Siberia. Let's look at the harsh life of the 16th century, go up to the observation deck, inspect the watchtowers and look into the forge.
    • The church in the name of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul.  We will visit the only functioning 19th century temple in the city and the district. This is the world's first stone Orthodox church, built on permafrost in 1894. A difficult fate awaited him, he was partially destroyed, but restored to its former glory in 1998.
    • An open-air museum of polar aviation and a monument to aviators of the Far North. We will see an unusual museum of small northern aviation with real planes and helicopters that flew from the 50s to the 90s. Few of us managed to meet such in everyday life, so their inspection will be interesting for both children and adults.
    • The stele "Romantics of the 70s" is a symbol of the development of the North in the 60-70s of the XX century, when Komsomol members from different parts of the Soviet Union came here to explore and raise the northern territories. And this could only be done by people with a burning heart, an iron will, faith in themselves and others – real romantics. Let's look at the stele, look for a drilling rig and a gas torch in its outlines, maybe we'll argue, find out the story and, of course, take a picture.
    • The objects of the 501st construction site during the Gulag. Let's take a look at one of the dark pages of our history. Part of the "road to nowhere" took place in Salekhard – the section of the Chum–Salekhard–Igarka railway. We will visit the memorial dedicated to the victims of repression.

    16:00-17:00 We go to the I.S. Shemanovsky Museum and Exhibition Complex.

    The first and largest museum in Yamal holds a unique exhibit – the remains of the mammoth Lyuba, found in 2007. The permafrost has completely preserved the skin, trunk, all other parts of the body and even the contents of the mammalian stomach. The discovery became a sensation for the entire scientific world! And there is also an almost complete skeleton of a mammoth and a woolly rhinoceros.

    In addition, in the museum we will see unique products made of clay, bone, metal, stone, organic materials (wood, birch bark, leather, etc.), illustrating the daily life of the people of the North from the Mesolithic era (6th millennium BC) to Modern times (XVI–XIX centuries).

    This museum is visited with pleasure by all guests of Yamal, because it is completely different from the usual city museums. That is why we definitely include his visit in our programs.

    17.00 Return to the hotel and have free time to discuss your impressions, relax and have a delicious dinner at one of the restaurants in the city. We will definitely give you all the appearances and passwords to make the evening a success.

It's important to know

Personal equipment you need for the tour
  • backpack (60-80 l);
  • sportswear suitable for weather conditions;
  • trekking boots/hard-soled shoes;

In general, clothes for traveling in Yamal can be divided into two types.

  • Clothing for tourism: the main principle is layering. The 1st layer is thermal underwear. Its function is to provide thermoregulation. Anyway, it can be useful on the ascent. It definitely won't be superfluous. The 2nd layer is a fleece jacket /bike to keep warm. The 3rd layer is a light sintepon or down jacket (so to speak, a summer down jacket);
  • Trekking shoes are of particular importance: it should be above the ankle, with a pronounced tread. It would be a mistake to go on the climbing route in urban sneakers. You can say goodbye to them in an hour. Shoes should be worn out. A brand new pair will cause a lot of inconvenience.
  • Also useful: in case of bad weather - a waterproof raincoat / jacket, wind / moisture-proof trousers, shorts (if it's hot), cotton socks, buff / scarf / wide shawl, sunglasses, cap (a sports hat will also not be superfluous), thin sports gloves.
  • Clothes for city excursions and walks (according to the weather). As a rule, it does not differ in any way from the urban style in other regions of the country: jeans, shorts, T-shirts, hoodies, socks, sneakers / boots, sandals, etc. I.e. here you can take with you what you feel comfortable walking in. It is also necessary to take clothes for the house, underwear, slippers, flip-flops, a swimsuit / swimming trunks (if you want to swim in mountain lakes), a personal first aid kit, hygiene products.

We recommend taking it with you:

  • a reusable water bottle;
  • KLMN (mug, spoon, bowl, knife);
  • minimum stock of favorite foods (sweets, crackers, drying, etc.);
  • headlamp;
  • additional batteries for phone/camera;
  • sunscreen (required!);
  • mosquito repellents;
  • thermos, 0.5 l;
  • tracking sticks;
  • wind and sun protection products;
  • repellents.
