Ascent to the "Dome of Three Lakes" in Actra

Aktru Gorge is located in the mountains of the North Chuisky range of the Altai Republic. Our hike will include an interesting road trip both along the Chuisky tract and through the arid Kurai steppe to the alpine camp.

We will camp in tents and make light radial trips to the Blue Lake and the Bolshoy Aktru glacier, which offers a beautiful view of the very top of Aktru, one of the four thousand meters of Gorny Altai.

The program also includes a training ascent to the Uchitel Pass (altitude 3,100 m). Finally, we will climb to the top of the Dome of Three Lakes (height 3556 m). Of course, we can't do without mountaineering skills training and special equipment.

It is possible to organize a hike on request, on any dates from 01.07. to 31.08 for individual groups of 4 people or more.

Itinerary

Day 1 - Arrival in Biysk. Placement on the base
Meeting in the morning in Biysk (Gorno-Altaisk) of the participants of the hike.
Loading into transport, transfer to the village of Kurai (transfer is paid separately).
Accommodation at the base. Distribution of public goods, food.

Day 2 - The beginning of the route to the Aktru gorge
The active part of our hiking route in the Aktru Gorge begins today.
We wake up, have breakfast and make a drop in an all-terrain vehicle along a mountain field road to a place called "Transshipment" by tourists.
A very bad road begins from the "Transshipment", which we overcome on a local UAZ.
The 8 km road takes a couple of hours, and we arrive at the place, at the Aktru Alpine Camp and set up a base camp, from which we will make radial exits.

Day 3 - Classes on the Bolshoy Aktru glacier
Today will be dedicated to ice classes on the Bolshoy Aktru glacier.
We practice the technique of handling alpine equipment: walking in cats, overcoming ice slopes, organizing insurance on ice, etc.

Day 4 - Blue Lake
Today we have to make a radial exit to the Blue Lake, which is located at an altitude of 2,800 meters in the moraine pocket of the Bolshoy Aktru glacier.
The main part of the route runs along the Bolshoy Aktru glacier.
After passing by the "Ram's Foreheads", a rock barrier, we continue climbing to the lake, next to which stands the glaciologists' house.
After a snack and rest, we go back down to the camp.

Day 5 - Teacher Pass
Today we are making an acclimatization trip to Uchitel Pass.
The pass is not difficult, its height is 3100 meters and has a difficulty category of 1A.
The pass offers a magnificent view of the Kurai steppe.
We return to the base camp in the evening.

Day 6 - The top of the "Dome of Three Lakes" (3556 m)
Early rise and exit.
The journey to the top can take up to 14 hours.
This ascent has a difficulty category of 1B, but it does not pose any particular difficulties for already acclimatized tourists.
Part of the way goes steeply up through the couloir, then we come to a place called the "Green Hotel", then the path goes along the glacier to the very top.
From the Dome of the Three Lakes, you can see almost the entire Altai – its three main ranges and two steppes, the Kurai and the huge Chuya steppes, which were once the bottom of the ancient Altai Sea!
Day 7 - Completion of the program. The way back
Our hike to the Aktru gorge is coming to an end, we will have to return along the Chui tract to Biysk (Gorno-Altaisk).
Transfer to Biysk (Gorno-Altaisk) is paid separately.
