Trails and roads of Altai. Light trekking

We invite you to a tour where the road is not just a journey, but an adventure full of discoveries and mysteries. The main part of our route will pass along the famous Chuisky highway, one of the most beautiful roads in the world.

You will find out at what cost and courage every kilometer of it was given. But to truly understand Altai, you need to get off the asphalt. Therefore, we are waiting for daily light tracking in the most picturesque and completely different landscapes.:

The highlight of our trip is climbing one of the lost passes of Altai. This path, known only to a few, will lead us to places where time has stopped. There are no crowds of tourists here, just the silence of the mountains, the whisper of the wind and the feeling that you have touched history.

Itinerary

  • Day 1 - Meeting. Chuisky tract

Our journey begins with the legendary Chuisky highway.

Outside the window, the landscapes will change each other like in a kaleidoscope, and you will find out at what incredible cost this road was created, connecting epochs and peoples.

Soon we will begin the conquest of the first mountain pass — Seminsky, 1717 meters high.

After that, we will turn aside for a short while and drive along the ultramodern road to the mouth of the Ursul River.

This road was built just over 10 years ago using the latest technology.

Here we will have our first walking tour — we will go down to the confluence of the Ursula with the Katun and admire the power of two rivers merging into one channel.

Next, we will see the equally impressive Chike Taman pass.

Although it is lower than Seminsky, it is famous for its complex character — numerous sharp turns and corridors cut into the rocks.

Then the scenery will become even more epic.

We will drive along the granite giants — the so-called "bombs", where the road lies on rocky shelves.

On one of them we will take a walk along the ancient wheeled road of the end of the XIX century, where historical masonry is still preserved.

Later in the evening we will arrive in the village of Inegen.

By car: 290 km. Walking distance: moderate 4-5 km, elevation difference 100-150 m.

  • Day 2 - The Tungur trail

  • Day 4 - Sunrise and the colored mountains of Kyzyl-Chin

It's important to know

Personal equipment you need for the tour

This list will help you make sure that you have everything you need for your trip to Altai. Even if you are an experienced traveler, it is always useful to check yourself on an additional list. If you have forgotten something, you will have the opportunity to buy the most necessary things in local stores. But be prepared that the choice may be limited and you will not be able to find your favorite brands.

Bags:

  • The main bag. We recommend one soft sports bag or a frameless backpack. They are less bulky and easy to handle. We really appreciate the convenient size bags. Suitcases are not the most suitable type for our tours.
  • A Hiking Backpack. In addition to the main bag, you will need a small backpack for excursions and day hikes. This backpack should have enough space for water, warm and waterproof clothes, binoculars and everything else that you will take with you on a day trip.

Clothes:

Usually the temperature on our trips ranges from +15 to +25°C during the day and from +5 to +15°With the night.

But there are also very hot (above 30 °C) or rainy days.

It is possible that the temperature may even drop below zero at night. We spend most of our trips at an altitude of 1600-2200 meters above sea level, so there is a lot of UV radiation. The most reliable advice is to be prepared for any weather! Layering in clothes is ideal. We recommend clothes made of synthetic fabrics (such as nylon, polyester, polypropylene or fleece), as they dry quickly and usually take up less space in your luggage. Please note that during our trips it is almost impossible to arrange laundry. So it's better to take the amount of clothes that you need for all the days of the trip. You should also have a spare set of clothes (including trousers and a jacket) in case you get wet.

  • T-shirts;
