We invite you to venture beyond the Southern Arctic Circle in an interesting company on the new luxury icebreaker Le Commandant Charcot.
You will be able to touch the greatness of sparkling glaciers and icebergs, observe the amazing Antarctic wildlife and listen to the ringing silence of Marguerite Bay.
On this cruise, you will also enjoy kayaking, hiking or snowshoeing, diving without a spacesuit, swimming in a dry suit and participating in scientific work.
Get the opportunity to go kayaking, snowshoe, or participate in scientific work.
Amazing animal world
You will be able to see a wide variety of representatives of marine fauna.
The famous Strait
Use the days spent in the Drake Strait to get to know the icebreaker and gain new knowledge about Antarctica.
Crossing the Southern Arctic Circle
You will visit a densely populated area where Minke whales,
humpback whales and subantarctic penguins are frequent visitors.
Purkua Pa Island
Go ashore on the Zodiac with your expedition team and get the opportunity to observe the Adelie penguins.
Unusual islands
If the situation is favorable, you will have the opportunity to disembark at Petermann Island, Paradise Bay and Port Lockroy.
Itinerary
Day 1 -
Flight from Santiago to Ushuaia. Boarding and sailing
Early in the morning, you will have a charter flight from Santiago to the capital of the Argentine province of Tierra del Fuego, Ushuaia, which is considered the gateway to the White Continent and the South Pole.
Nicknamed "The End of the World" by the Argentine people, this city is nestled in the mountains surrounded by fertile plains.
Here, the Andes plunge directly into the sea, which is why Ushuaia is one of the most spectacular places on Earth.
In the afternoon, boarding and sailing – your adventure begins.
Day 2 -
Drake Strait and security briefings
Use the days spent in the Drake Strait to get to know your icebreaker and gain new knowledge about Antarctica.
The expedition leader will provide security briefings and explain everything you need to know about zodiac landings.
Lectures on Antarctic history and wildlife will be an opportunity for you to learn more about this magical region, where every cruise is a unique experience.
Day 3 -
Drake Strait
We continue to explore the yacht and information about Antarctica.
We observe marine animals.
From the captain's bridge, you will be able to see the journey through the eyes of the captain before joining the naturalist guides on the open decks to observe the albatrosses, Cape petrels and other seabirds that will accompany us in the Drake Strait.
Day 4 -
Crossing the Southern Arctic Circle
Let's venture south of the Arctic Circle. Where the sun never sets.
Minke whales, humpback whales and subantarctic penguins are frequent visitors to this densely populated area of Antarctica.
This place is the end point for many cruises to Antarctica, beyond which cruise ships do not enter.
We will go further south and, passing the dark waters of the picturesque Crystal Bay dotted with white ice floes, we will become one of the few Antarctic visitors who have crossed the Arctic Circle.
We will definitely celebrate this event and raise a glass of champagne in his honor.
Day 5 -
Gullet Strait
The incredible scenery of the narrow channel between Adelaide Island and Graham Land attracts all visitors walking towards Marguerite Bay.
It looks like an ice palace, its immaculate white walls reflected in the icy mirror of the waters of the Southern Ocean, dotted with icebergs and sparkling blocks of ice.
This passage was first explored by the expedition of Jean-Baptiste Charcot in 1909, which mapped it.
It was here, in this magical setting, that some of the first underwater images of Antarctica were taken during Philippe Cousteau's four-month expedition to Antarctica between 1972 and 1973.

Day 6 -
Charcot Island
When Jean-Baptiste Charcot discovered this island surrounded by sea ice from the Pourquoi Pas in 1910, he mapped Alexander Island, but could not get less than 40 miles away from it.
Located in an area where low pressure systems and regular clouds are often observed, the island remains a mystery in many ways.
It is completely covered with ice and sheer cliffs, with the exception of rocky outcrops extending for a dozen kilometers in the extreme northwest.
Day 7 -
Charcot Island
Recently, the ice in the narrowest part of Wilkins Sound has been cracking, which officially separates this island from its neighbor, Alexander Island, located 50 km away.
Very few people have landed on this virtually untouched island, whose waters attract many seabirds such as petrels, Antarctic terns and skuas.
Day 8 -
The Bellingshausen Sea
Stretching from the west of the Antarctic Peninsula to the Amundsen Sea, the Bellingshausen Sea was named after the Russian admiral and explorer who is credited with the first confirmed sighting of the Antarctic continent in 1820.
Among other things, its waters are washed by the two largest islands of Antarctica: Alexandra Island and Thurston Island.
You will explore this sea among ice floes, blocks of sea ice and majestic icebergs.
The coastal areas along the Bellingshausen Sea are also known as a habitat for emperor penguin colonies.
Depending on the month of the southern summer, you may be lucky enough to observe adults, teenagers seeking emancipation, or newly independent young individuals.
Day 9 -
A day at sea
Spend exceptional moments aboard Le Commandant Charcot, the world's first luxury polar exploration vessel and the first PC2 class polar cruise ship capable of heading into the heart of the ice, into seas and oceans that are inaccessible to ordinary ships due to low temperatures.
Le Commandant Charcot is equipped with oceanographic and scientific equipment selected by a committee of experts.
Attend lectures on board and chat with these experts to learn more about the poles.
Participate in the development of scientific research with PONANT and find out what else we have to discover in these amazing places.
Day 10 -
Marguerite Bay
Icebergs, one more majestic than the other, are scattered across the deep and rich blue waters of Marguerite Bay, one of the most beautiful in Antarctica.
It is bounded on the north by the mountainous island of Adelaide, on the south by the Strait of George VI and Alexander Island, and on the east by the coast of Falliers.
Charcot named it after his wife during his second expedition to Antarctica.
The bay is home to many cetaceans, and you may have the opportunity to observe sea leopards or Adelie penguins.
Day 11 -
Purqua Pa Island
Le Commandant Charcot will approach the coast of Pourquoi Pas Island, so named in the 1930s by John Riddoch Rimill in honor of Jean-Baptiste Charcot, who discovered it from aboard his ship Le Pourquoi Pas during his second expedition to Antarctica from 1908 to 1910.
This mountainous island, located in the north of Marguerite Bay between Graham Land and Adelaide Island, is 28 km long and 14 km wide.
It is dotted with narrow fjords and snow-capped mountains.
You will go ashore on a zodiac boat with your expedition team, and you will have the opportunity to watch the Adelie penguins going about their business on the rocky shores of the island.
Day 12 -
The Antarctic Peninsula
The Antarctic Peninsula is a place where, among the captivating glaciers, majestic icebergs and snow—capped islands, most visitors to the White Continent will realize their dream of Antarctica.
We will try to disembark at Petermann Island, Paradise Bay and Port Lockroy.
Day 13 -
The Antarctic Peninsula
The Antarctic Peninsula, the most accessible area of the continent, is home to several scientific bases and some of the most beautiful wildlife landscapes, such as the extremely photogenic Lemaire Canal.
We will try to disembark at Petermann Island, Paradise Bay and Port Lockroy.
Day 14 -
Drake Strait
We cross the Drake Strait again, and the silhouettes of Antarctica melt away behind us, leaving memories that will now be with you forever.
Our team will continue to show presentations about the nature of these places, including, if possible, slide shows with highlights from our trip.
Day 15 -
Drake Strait
We relax, participate in events and presentations from the team.
You will also have the opportunity to recall once again everything that happened to you these days, and chat over a cup of coffee with friends you acquired on the ship.
Day 16 -
Arrival in Ushuaia and charter to Santiago
We arrive at the port early in the morning, and our journey is over.
A transfer will take you to the airport, from where you will take a charter flight to Santiago, the capital of Chile.

It's important to know
Personal equipment you need for the tour
The main factor when choosing clothes on board a ship is convenience. Clothing can be casual or informal.
Take windproof and waterproof outerwear with you.
Do not take tight clothes with you that do not leave room for the air layer, which is an excellent insulator.
Wool, silk, and some modern synthetic fibers, such as polar fleece, retain heat better than cotton.
Check if you have taken everything.:
You will be given a polar jacket on board;
You will be provided with rubber boots on board;
warm underwear;
warm trousers (jeans are suitable for wearing on board and for excursions);
waterproof trousers for boating and land walks (wear them over your regular trousers);
a wool sweater or a fleece jacket;
mittens and gloves;
a woolen hat;
warm socks;
comfortable moisture-resistant boots with ribbed soles;
sneakers or boots. It is forbidden to wear flip-flops on board for safety reasons.
waterproof backpack for disembarkation;
sunglasses with UV protection;
face and lip protection cream;
bathing suit;
camera and memory cards;
An extra pair of your optical glasses;
medical supplies prescribed by a doctor with a few extra days to spare;
plastic bag with zipper or camera clip;
multiple T-shirts to wear on board and on landings;
binoculars for observing wild animals;
battery pack;
a notebook and a pen.
Perfect clothes.
It is recommended to wear comfortable casual clothes on board during the day. Since the entire vessel is air-conditioned, a jumper, light jacket or shawl may be required. When you are in public places and on deck, it is best to wear light, comfortable shoes.
An informal evening.
In the evening, smart casual clothes are recommended, especially during dinner in a restaurant where it is not allowed to wear shorts and T-shirts. For women: dress, skirt or trousers, shirt or blouse, jumper. For men: trousers or chinos, sports jacket, shirt and jumper.
Are plane tickets included in the price of the tour?
The price includes a charter flight from Santiago — Ushuaia — Santiago, but flights to and from Santiago must be purchased independently. You can also contact us for help.
What time should I take plane tickets?
The price includes a charter flight from Santiago — Ushuaia — Santiago, so the tour will start and end in Santiago. You must arrive in Santiago on or before the start of the tour.
We recommend that you take an international return flight from Santiago departing after 22:00 or the next day, as there are delays in charter flights from Ushuaia due to weather conditions.
Do I need special training?
The level of physical fitness for expedition cruises is not important.
Anyone who can climb up and down the ladder of a ship will pass through any landing in the wildest places without difficulty. On the contrary, those who want to get some exercise will be offered longer walks over rough terrain.
But it is worth remembering that you will find yourself in hard-to-reach places and the nearest hospital may be thousands of kilometers away from you, so if you suffer from chronic diseases, consult with your doctor before traveling.
Will I get seasick?
We may encounter unrest at sea on any expedition. Choose a suitable remedy for motion sickness in advance and take it with you: pills, Band-aids, motion sickness bracelets.
Most preventive medications for motion sickness must be taken in advance while you are feeling well.
If you are prone to motion sickness, avoid alcohol, tobacco, excess liquids, and confined spaces.
Are there any tips for a comfortable expedition cruise?
Some tips to help you feel comfortable during an expedition cruise:
Do not dress too warmly to avoid sweating.
Wear waterproof clothing made of a material that will nevertheless allow your body to "breathe" and thus prevent moisture from condensing under your clothes.
The legs and arms are most susceptible to cooling. Try to keep them dry and warm. Mittens are best suited for the northern climate. A wise decision would be to take both mittens and gloves to be prepared for weather changes.
A person loses 90% of his heat when cooling his head! Make sure your head is warm. Along with a headdress covering your ears and forehead, bring a hat or hood that can cover your neck and chin if necessary.
It's a great idea to take a woolen or synthetic scarf: to protect your neck, it can be tied over your face if you have to move against the wind.
Wear comfortable, spacious clothes. It's better to wear a few light clothes than one warm one. A thin layer of air will remain between the layers of clothing, which, when the body temperature rises, serves as an excellent insulator.
Wool and silk are preferable to cotton, as they retain warm air well. Synthetic materials that take on their shape again after compression are also good. If things get wet or damp, a polystyrene lining is a better insulator than goose or duck down. We also recommend fleece clothing, which is popular even among extreme travelers.
What language is the program in?
English is the main language on the vast majority of expedition cruises.
