It's important to know
Personal equipment you need for the tour
The main factor in choosing clothes on board a ship is convenience. Clothes can be casual and informal. Take windproof and waterproof outerwear with you.
Do not take tight clothes with you, which does not leave space for the air layer, which is an excellent insulator. Wool, silk and some modern synthetic fibers, such as polar fleece, retain heat better than cotton.
A few tips to help you feel comfortable during an expedition cruise:
Do not dress too warmly to avoid sweating.
Wear waterproof clothing made of a material that will allow your body to "breathe" and thus prevent moisture from condensing under your clothes.
The legs and arms are most susceptible to cooling. Try to keep them dry and warm. Mittens are best suited for the northern climate.
A wise decision would be to take mittens and gloves to be prepared for changes in the weather.
A person loses 90% of the heat when cooling his head! Make sure your head is warm. Along with a headdress covering your ears and forehead, bring a hat or hood that could cover your neck and chin if necessary.
It's a great idea to take a woolen or synthetic scarf: providing neck protection, it can be tied over your face if you have to move against the wind.
Wear comfortable, spacious clothes. It is better to wear several light clothes than one warm one. A thin layer of air will remain between the layers of clothing, which, with an increase in body temperature, serves as an excellent insulator.
Wool and silk are preferable to cotton, because they retain warm air well. Synthetic materials that take their shape again after compression are also good. If things get wet or damp, a polystyrene lining is a better insulator than goose or duck down.
We recommend fleece clothing, which is popular even among extreme travelers.
Dress code
Casual clothes
It is recommended to wear comfortable clothes on board during the day. Since the entire vessel is air-conditioned, a jumper, light jacket or shawl may be required. When you are in public places and on deck, it is best to wear light, comfortable shoes.
Informal evening
In the evening, smart casual clothes are recommended, especially during dinner in a restaurant where shorts and T-shirts are not allowed.
For women: dress, skirt or trousers, shirt or blouse, jumper.
For men: trousers or chinos, sports jacket, shirt and jumper.
Check if you have taken everything:
you will be given a polar jacket on board;
You will be given pezine boots on board;
warm underwear;
warm trousers (jeans are suitable for wearing on board and for excursions);
waterproof trousers for boating and land walks (wear them over your regular trousers);
a wool sweater or a fleece jacket;
mittens and gloves;
a woolen hat;
warm socks;
comfortable moisture-resistant boots with ribbed soles;
sneakers or boots. It is forbidden to wear flip-flops on board
safety;
waterproof backpack for drop-offs;
sunglasses with UV protection;
protective cream for face and lips;
bathing suit;
camera and memory cards;
an extra pair of your optical glasses;
medical supplies prescribed by a doctor with a margin for several additional
days;
plastic bag with zipper or camera clip;
several T-shirts to wear on board and on landings;
binoculars for observing wild animals;
battery pack;
notepad and pen.
Are plane tickets included in the price of the tour?
Flights from/to Buenos Aires are not included in the price of the tour. You can purchase them yourself or contact us for help.
Are visas required for travel?
The cruise passes through the territory of Chile. No visas are needed for Russian citizens.
If you are not a citizen of the Russian Federation, please check whether you need a visa to Argentina and Chile.
Do I need special training?
The level of physical fitness for expedition cruises is not important. Anyone who is able to lift and descend the ship's ladder will go through any landing in the wildest places without difficulty. On the contrary, those who want to get some exercise will be offered longer cross-country walks.
But it is worth remembering that you will find yourself in hard-to-reach places and the nearest hospital may be thousands of kilometers away from you, so if you suffer from chronic diseases, consult with your doctor before traveling.
How is your day on the cruise going?
A fixed daily schedule is never offered for expedition programs, since most routes run in remote, inaccessible and poorly explored regions with extreme climatic conditions.
The proposed programs serve as an approximate guide of what you can see or visit during your trip, but visiting certain places or meeting certain animals cannot be guaranteed.
The program for the day, the schedule of drop-offs, lectures, and the restaurant's opening hours for the next day will be available the night before each day.
Please remember that during polar expeditions, changes in the program and route occur every day, so we may have to adjust the program during the day. The captain or the expedition leader will inform you about any new changes on the speakerphone.
During the cruise, the captain and the expedition leader will constantly monitor the weather and ice conditions in order to create for you as many opportunities as possible to enjoy landings and cruises on the zodiac.
Will I get seasick?
You may encounter unrest at sea on any expedition. Choose in advance and take with you a suitable cure for seasickness: pills, Band-aids, bracelets for motion sickness.
Most preventive medications for seasickness should be taken in advance while you are feeling well.
If you are prone to motion sickness, avoid alcohol, tobacco, excess liquids and confined spaces.
General conditions of participation in expedition cruises
The route of the expedition may change during the cruise, including by the decision of the expedition leader for the safety of participants (no compensation is paid to passengers if the route and schedule are changed).
Can the cruise itinerary change?
The ship's crew and the expedition team make every effort to adhere to the planned route, but it is important to understand that the distinctive feature of expedition programs is the flexibility of the route and possible changes due to weather and ice conditions or other unforeseen circumstances.
Changes will only be made if they meet your interests, your safety or the requirements of maritime regulations.
The captain and his team will always do their best to make your trip safe, interesting and memorable.
How are we going to disembark?
We use sturdy boats called zodiacs to land.
Since there are no ports in most places along the route of expedition cruises, zodiacs are used to land on uninhabited shores.
What documents do I need to provide for the cruise?
You will be required to provide passport data — last name and first name (written in Latin, as in the passport), date of birth, passport number, date of issue and expiration date.
Do I need medical insurance for a cruise?
You definitely need medical insurance covering evacuation and repatriation from hard-to-reach regions for 150,000 euros.
If you have your own insurance with the necessary coverage, then you can use it.
I need special food, will I be able to get it on board?
If you have any dietary requirements, we can send the information to the cruise company in advance.
