Arkhangelsk is the gateway to the Arctic

The city of Arkhangelsk, born of the sea, has been standing on the shore of the Northern Dvina River for more than 4 centuries. Having become the cradle of shipbuilding under Peter I, the port city built ships for the entire Russian fleet.

Today, the city of Severodvinsk in the Arkhangelsk region is a center for the construction and repair of nuclear submarines. It was from the shores of the White Sea that the development of the Arctic expanses began.

Nowadays Arkhangelsk is deservedly called the "gateway of the Arctic".

11:00 Sightseeing bus tour "Russia's first port" is an introduction to the history of Arkhangelsk and its main attractions.

The acquaintance with the city begins at the cape with the mysterious name "Pur-Pillowcase"

The story of the place where Arkhangelsk and Gostiny Dvory were founded is an architectural monument of the XVII century with a majestic tower and powerful walls that seem to carry over time and tell that Arkhangelsk was once a city where trade with foreign merchants was concentrated and the city became the first commercial seaport of Russia.

The majestic Severnaya Dvina River and the embankment stretching along it are a favorite place for walks, both for residents of Arkhangelsk and guests of the city.

The monument to Peter I and the seal Savior, the Assumption Church and the Green gazebo - the embankment is good, both on summer days and in winter, when a chain of lanterns crosses the ice–bound Northern Dvina.

From the embankment of the Northern Dvina there is a panorama of the island part of Arkhangelsk – the island of Solombala, where, by decree of Peter the Great, the first state shipyard was laid and the first merchant ship was launched

    Lunch at the cafe.

A country bus tour to the largest open–air museum in Russia - the museum-reserve of wooden architecture "Malye Korely" (25 km from Arkhangelsk), in which more than a hundred monuments of wooden architecture are located among the picturesque forest, collected from all over the Arkhangelsk region (churches, chapels, mills, barns, residential buildings).

A tour of one section of the museum, free time.

Visit to the company store of the Arkhangelsk algae plant.

    Return to Arkhangelsk.
