It's important to know

Personal equipment you need for the tour
  • Backpack. You need a backpack not only for hiking and climbing. It is very convenient and mobile for transporting your belongings from home to the airport, from the airport to the bus, from the bus to the hotel, etc. A good backpack is the one that "sits" on your back. Special attention should be paid to the suspension system, it should fit comfortably and snugly to the back. Ask a consultant at the store to put something heavy in a backpack and walk around with it for 5-10 minutes. For a planned trip, it will be enough for you to have a backpack with a volume of 60-90 liters. We recommend lightweight, comfortable and durable backpacks from companies such as Osprey, Haglofs, Fjallraven.
  • A travel mat and a sleeping bag. The mat should be light, soft and keep out moisture and cold. We recommend considering the option of the Term-ARest inflatable mat. The sleeping bag is selected according to temperature and filler material. For summer tours to Lake Baikal, sleeping bags with synthetic fillers with a comfort temperature of 0- minus 5 degrees are suitable (women can take a warmer sleeping bag). Please note that the extreme temperature is not an indicator of the comfort of a sleeping bag. Do not forget to take into account that the sleeping bags differ in size and right/left zipper. Among the brands we recommend Alexika, North Face, Marmot, Deuter, Sivera, Yeti, Rab.
  • Outerwear. First of all, these are trousers and a jacket. Both things should cover the lower back, it is important to use membrane inserts (which provide thermal and moisture protection, and at the same time "breathe"), if possible, tighten on the sleeves and shins. Ventilation, pockets, reflective elements and puffs will be useful. Wind and moisture protection indicators are important. Look at the products of companies such as Haglofs, Sivera, Bask, Marmot. Be sure to bring a thick cape with you, which will protect both you and your backpack from the rain.
  • Insulation. We recommend that you bring a jacket and trousers made of Polartec or Pontetorto fabric. It is a very pleasant to the touch, warm, lightweight and quick-drying material. Another option is a down sweater or a compact insulated jacket. On Baikal evenings, you will be very comfortable in clothes made of such fabric. We recommend the brands Haglofs, Arcteryx, Sivera, Red Fox.
  • Tracking sticks. They are extremely useful if the program includes a hike along the shore of Lake Baikal. The sticks allow you to reduce the load on your legs and ensure safety on the route. We recommend Black Diamond, MSR, Masters, Camp from manufacturers.
  • Footwear. The quality of shoes is extremely important for a comfortable trip. For active tours, especially hiking, you will need good trekking boots. Ideally, the shoe should contain a minimum of seams, the main material should be leather, it should contain inserts of membrane fabric, fix the ankle rigidly and sit comfortably on the foot. The shoes are taken in size. Please note that there are also mountain boots – you will not need them. It is better to buy shoes a few months before the start of the trip, and "carry" them at home. We recommend shoes from Asolo, Keen, Meindl, Scarpa, Haglofs, Salomon companies. In addition, it is worth taking light trekking sneakers or sandals.
  • The seat is an individual tourist (hob). With it, it will be more pleasant for you to admire the sunset on the shore, sit on a raft or in a kayak, and it can additionally protect the lower back from the wind during walks.
  • A cap or bandana.
  • A light hat.
  • Gloves.
  • Sunscreen (protection factor of at least 20).
  • Sunglasses (with at least 2 UV protection).
  • A headlamp (and spare batteries).
  • Tracking socks.
  • Bathing accessories (you can swim on Lake Baikal).
  • Mosquito and tick repellents (it is better to buy in Irkutsk, because they may not be allowed on the plane).
  • A rain cape.
  • Down jackets or thin down jackets.
  • Clothes for the city and for the resort.
  • Photo and video equipment, as well as spare flash cards and batteries/accumulators.
  • Portable charger (power bank).
  • Passport and MHI policy.
  • Sealed packaging for documents.
  • Toiletries.
  • Lingerie.
  • A personal first aid kit (be sure to take patches and, if necessary, medicines - if you have any specific diseases).
  • Personal hygiene products (including toilet paper and wet wipes).
