Trekking in Bezengi without backpacks

Nature has given the Caucasus eight peaks, the mark of which exceeds 5000 m. And six of them are located in Bezengi. These places are called the "icy heart of the Caucasus." Amazing orange poppies and emerald glaciers are placed here in one frame.

We will visit several waterfalls, walk through an equipped ecotrope and make trekking to the Northern and Bezengian walls.

Tour organizer's comments

The route involves walking through mountainous (rugged) terrain. It involves daily climbing and dropping heights (ascents and descents).

The route passes through forest trails, dirt roads, alpine meadows, large and small stones. There will be an altitude difference of 160 to 480 m per day.

There is an altitude difference of 800 m on one day of the route. Climbing up 800 m is about the same as climbing 260 floors.

The route is simple, we recommend it for beginners and parents with children. The route runs at an altitude of 1560-2820 m. The route length is 42.6 km.

It's important to know

Personal equipment you need for the tour

Please note the rules for choosing clothes for a trip: in the Caucasus, you can wear trousers and T-shirts. You should not take shorts or T-shirts for a trip.

  • cap/panama hat;
  • jacket, the air temperature in the early morning and late evening is +8...+12C;
  • fleece (in autumn we recommend taking 2 fleece: one for walking on the route (it gets a hiking smell quickly enough), the second is clean and fresh for walking in the hotel);
  • T-shirt;
  • A light long-sleeve shirt will protect your arms and neck from burning.;
  • The buff protects the neck from burning, and can be used as a headdress.;
  • running trousers;
  • underwear and socks;
  • sleepwear (it's cool in the room at night);
  • trekking shoes up to the ankle and above;
  • flip-flops (for walking in a hotel) and a swimsuit;
  • for girls optional: dress for a photo shoot on the background of mountains;
  • waterproof clothing or raincoat from the middle of the thigh and below;
  • trekking poles significantly reduce the load on the knees. Physically strong and healthy tourists are recommended to have them with them. Tourists who have problems with knees, joints and excess weight must have trekking poles! If necessary, the club provides trekking poles for rent.;
  • passport / birth certificate of the child, it is mandatory to have the original (not a copy);
  • camera / video camera and charger (in several gorges along the route that enter the border zone, it is forbidden to use a quadcopter for filming);
  • toiletries (toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, shampoo, razor);
  • a comb and sunglasses;
  • 0.5 L plastic bottle (for drinking water on the route);
  • toilet paper (useful during the day, on the route);
  • mug, spoon, plate. In the mountains, tourists drink tea from a mug that comes with a thermos or take a separate mug. The plate is useful to put sliced and small products (vegetables, cheese, olives, etc.) into it during lunch. The mug and plate should be non-breakable.;
  • wet wipes, thread, needle;
  • tee (there is only 1 socket in the room);
  • backpack for walking (volume 20-25 liters). The backpack contains the tourist's personal belongings (fleece, raincoat, water bottle, etc.), as well as public food for lunch, which is provided by the instructor (the weight of the products is 400-600 grams);
  • hoba (tourist foam);
  • shoe dryers;
  • sunscreen, lipstick;
  • individual first aid kit. Required: elastic bandage, Band-aid;
  • hat, gloves (for trips in September, October);
  • thermos bottle volume 0.5-0.75 liters (for trips in September, October);
  • cash money;
  • head lamp (for trips in September, October). The daylight hours get shorter in the fall, so sometimes a flashlight can be useful on the route in the evening.

    The accommodation was very comfortable, both in cabins and in tents. The food was delicious and filling. A wide range of gear is available for rent, including tents, trekking poles, and hiking boots. A hairdryer and heater can also be provided upon request. The internet connection was weak and unreliable. The routes were not very diverse: we went through the Bezengi Gorge 2 times and the Mezhergi Gorge 2 times (just on different sides of the gorges), and we never actually reached the glaciers. The host company tends to be overly cautious and cancels routes at the slightest risk, citing safety concerns, even though other trekking clubs were running their planned or alternative routes at the same time.

    A wonderful place with breathtaking views, and an amazing guide :) I was inspired to visit Bezengi after seeing photos from Caucasus Tours — I really wanted to experience it in person. That dream came true: I saw it all up close, just 20 meters away. The organization was top-notch. Special thanks to our guide, Lala, whose care and enthusiasm made the experience truly memorable. Thank you for the unforgettable moments ❤️
