Day 2 - Dombay Resort
It starts at 09:00.
Program of the day: Gumbashi pass — Shoaninsky temple — Sentinsky temple — Teberdinsky Nature Reserve — Ullu-Muruju River — Dombay glade.
On the way to Dombay, we will arrange an intense photo shoot at the colorful Gumbashi pass, stop at the Muruju River to admire the wildlife.
Not far from the village of Khetagurovo, we will climb the holy mountain Shoan ("sanctuary"), on which stands the ancient Christian Cathedral of St. George the Victorious. This is the Alan temple of the first half of the 10th century, the pearl of Byzantine architecture, a recognized monument of national significance.
On the way, we will make a stop and look at the Sentinsky Temple towering on the mountain, which is one of the five most ancient temples of the 10th century in Russia and was built in the Byzantine style.
Next, our way lies through the Teberdinsky State Nature Reserve. There are a wide variety of natural landscapes here: mountains with peaks touching the sky, glaciers with ancient secrets, forests with many amazing animals.

Day 3 - Teberdinsky Nature Reserve. Nizhny Arkhyz
It starts at 09:00.
Program of the day: ascent to the top of Moussa-Achitary — Teberdinsky Nature Reserve — Nizhne-Arkhyz Alan settlement — Face of Christ — Pearl of the Caucasus thermal springs (additional ticket fee) — Pyatigorsk.
Cable car ride to the top of Moussa Achitara. An amazing panorama opens from the observation deck, as the famous peaks of the Caucasus and the mighty Elbrus in a haze of clouds appear in the palm of your hand. The guide will introduce you to local legends, tell you about the culture, customs and traditions of the Caucasian peoples.
The cable car ticket is paid separately — 2,700 rubles.
The program will continue with an introduction to the Nizhne-Arkhyz Alan settlement. Presumably, it was here that the capital of the ancient Alan state, the disappeared city of Maas, mentioned in the Byzantine chronicles, was located.
Let's go up to the rock Face of Christ, a monumental icon painted on a rock. The Savior's gaze is directed at the Northern Temple of the Nizhne-Arkhyz settlement. It was in this temple that the Alans were baptized in the 10th century AD.

Day 4 - Honey waterfalls, Kislovodsk

A trip to the Honey Waterfalls will reveal the diversity and beauty of nature, history and traditions of the region. On the way, we will make a stop to explore a natural monument — Mount Koltso.
After a walk at the waterfalls, you will have time to relax and enjoy the natural scenery, taste the national cuisine.
The acquaintance with Kislovodsk begins in the old part of the city, from the fortress that gave rise to the resort town in the early years of the 19th century.
We will continue along the alleys and paths of the Kurortny Park, the second largest man—made park in Europe. Once upon a time, Mikhail Lermontov, Alexander Pushkin, Leo Tolstoy and Anton Chekhov strolled here.

Day 5 - Azau Glade, Mount Elbrus. Transfer to Nalchik
It starts at 08:30.
Program of the day: Baksan gorge — Narzanov glade — Azau glade (2300 m above sea level).
We will go to the foot of the highest mountain in Europe — Elbrus (5462 m), along the way we will get acquainted with the sights of the largest and most famous Baksan gorge in the Central Caucasus, visit the beautiful Narzan Meadow.
Then we will climb to the Azau glade (2,300 m above sea level). Coniferous forest, mountain air, and natural narrows create a good mood and strengthen the immune system.
Cable car ride to Elbrus station "Mir", 3450 m. Let's explore the surroundings: the intoxicating feeling of conquering the highest peak in Europe, the endless panorama of snow-capped ridges and clouds passing underfoot.

Day 6 - The Cherek gorge. Upper Balkaria, Blue Lakes

The Cherek Gorge is an extraordinarily beautiful place in the mountains of the Caucasus, which has preserved its unique nature, ancient sights, and distinctive Balkarian culture. It is here, high in the mountains, that you can touch the true history of the Balkarian people.
One of the main natural attractions is the Lower Blue Lake, which is part of the Lake Balkaria complex. The largest and deepest karst lake, which the ethnic population calls "bottomless," is shrouded in a huge number of legends and mysteries.
This will be followed by an inspection of the Cherek Gorge, the narrowest part of the gorge. It is here that you can observe the picturesque steep cliffs that amaze with their size and grandeur, as well as see the full power of the Cherek River, which formed the gorge itself.

Climbing higher, we find ourselves in the mountainous village of Verkhnyaya Balkaria, which is known as the "open-air museum" because it is here, surrounded by mountains, that buildings from the late Middle Ages have been preserved.

Day 7 - The Kurtatinsky and Karmadon gorges. Dargavs

Karmadon is one of the narrowest and most rugged gorges in Ossetia. The gorge's infamy is associated with the collapse of the Kolka Glacier in 2002. As a result of the collapse, residents of the gorge died.

The Kurtatinsky gorge is located in the very center of mountainous Ossetia. To this day, ancient Ossetian villages with family, military, residential and signal towers, cave fortifications, and religious buildings have been preserved here.
The Kurta and Tag Tower is one of the symbols of Ossetia, located on top of a cliff at the convergence of three gorges. In the Middle Ages, the tower was of crucial strategic importance in defending against the enemy and in rallying Ossetian clans.
The observation deck offers spectacular views of the Fiagdon Valley, other family tower complexes, and terraces reclaimed from the mountains for planting crops.
The highest mountain monastery in Russia is the Holy Dormition Alan Monastery. Fiagdon monuments: at the monument "The Grieving Horse" let us remember the soldiers of the Kurtatians who gave their lives for their Homeland in the Great Patriotic War. We will also see the world's first monument to Lenin and a bust of Stalin.
Dzivgis rock fortress. The fortress dates back to the time of the invasion of Tamerlane, that is, around the 15th century. An amazing tactical contraption created by the highlanders to protect them from enemy raids.

Day 8 - An exciting trip to mountainous Ingushetia
Important: to enter the border area of the Dzheyrakh Gorge, the presence of a Russian passport is mandatory, and foreign citizens need to obtain a pass. The pass is issued by the tourist himself one month before the start of the tour.

Acquaintance with the oldest Christian church in Russia — Thaba-Yerdy in the Assinsky gorge, on the right tributary of the river Assi, near the border with Georgia. Built back in the 8th century, it was originally pagan.

Day 9 - Mountain Digoria: Zadalesk, Makhchesk, Uallagkom

We will visit three villages in Uallagkom itself: Dunta, Kamunta and Galiat. They have amazingly preserved not only the spirit of bygone times, but also real ancient artifacts: stones with mysterious inscriptions and ruins of castles (galouans) and temple structures.
A walk through the medieval architectural complex in the village of Galiat. The houses here used to be built in tiers. The roof of one house served as a courtyard for another, and it is unlikely that residential "high-rise buildings" dating back to the tenth century can be seen anywhere else in the Caucasus Mountains.
Kamunta is now the most mountainous residential village in Digoria and the whole of Ossetia.
On the way back, we will see the picturesque ruins of a processing plant and a power plant built by the Belgians during the years of active prospecting for ores and metals in the Caucasus mountains in the village of Fasnal, and in the village of Matsuta we will stop at the crypt of Narta Soslan.

Day 10 - Alagir Gorge, Tsei and Mamison

Moving along the Military Ossetian road in the Alagir gorge, to the right along the way, attention is attracted by a mighty sculptural composition. This is Nykhas Uastyrdzhi, as they call him in Ossetia. This place is a dzuar, a holy place. The sculpture is attached to a rock and weighs 28 tons!
In the Ossetian tradition, Uastyrdzhi is one of the main characters of the Nart epic — a celestial being, the patron saint of men, travelers and warriors. The monument is considered one of the largest equestrian monuments in the world.
On the way we will see the cave and the sanctuary of Sau Baraga (the Black Horseman). The place and the very image of the Black Horseman are shrouded in many legends and beliefs that we have to learn.
We will turn from Transkam to the Tseysky Gorge or Tseyskaya horseshoe. Places of power are Alan historical and religious buildings. The entire Tsey Gorge is a state nature reserve, and the figure of the patron saint Afsati at the entrance symbolizes protection for everyone living in this beautiful corner of the Caucasus.
Monk Mountain is the motionless and stern guardian of Cei.
We will take a chairlift to the Skaz glacier (ticket - extra charge), see the ice grotto from where the Skazdon River is rushing out, enjoy the views of the mountain element.

Moving further along the Transkam into the depths of mountainous Ossetia, we head to the Mamison gorge, one of the most remote and once inaccessible corners of Ossetia. Military and residential towers and entire fortified complexes of medieval mountain settlements are still preserved here.
In the ancient village of Lisri, we will encounter artifacts from past eras, and see architectural structures of ancient architecture. We will learn about the legends and history of other settlements of the gorge: Tib, Tli, Kalak, Zgil.
On the way back to Vladikavkaz, we will stop at the piercing obelisk of the Gazdanov Brothers in the village of Dzuarikau to pay tribute to the memory of those who died in the Great Patriotic War.

Day 12 - Gamsutl, Chokh and tesnina / waterfall, Matlas and Khunzakh

Transfer to Gunibsky district. Gamsutl village, which is often called the ghost village or Dagestan Machu Picchu, is located at an altitude of 1,700 m. There is no road here, so you have to walk along the canyon for just over an hour. But it's worth it!
Gamsutl is considered one of the most ancient settlements in Dagestan, and although the village has been abandoned by people relatively recently, it seems that time has stopped here and everything around it looks more like a movie set.
On the opposite slope of the ridge is the mountainous village of Chokh, the birthplace of many prominent Dagestani scientists, educators and military aristocracy. The houses with colorful roofs are attached to each other, like floors in a high-rise building, with a mountain serving as one of the walls.
The Karadakh Gorge, which is called the "Gate of Wonders", is an extraordinary creation of nature. The height of the cliffs reaches 170 meters at the highest point, which creates the impression of an enclosed space. Steep slopes surround and squeeze from all sides, every step and sound echoes.

We will see one of the highest waterfalls not only in mountainous Dagestan, but also in the entire territory of the North Caucasus — the Tobot waterfall. The waterfall adorns the Khunzakh plateau.
Next to the village of Khunzakh stretches the Tsolotlinsky canyon, into which three rivers fall in the form of waterfalls. There is also an observation deck.

Day 13 - Derbent: Lun ekranoplan, Naryn-Kala Citadel

The grandiose Sulak Canyon, up to 1920 m deep, a great creation of nature, stretches across the territory of Dagestan for 53 km. Dubki village has several secure viewing platforms, from where the canyon will appear in all its glory.
The panorama of the Chirkeysky reservoir will leave unexpected and vivid impressions. On request and for an additional fee, there will be an opportunity to take a boat ride along the reservoir and visit the Noho caves.

It's important to know

First of all, travel clothes should be comfortable. Please take with you what you normally wear for hiking and relaxing.

For protected areas and mountain gorges, sneakers with durable and non-slippery soles are best suited.

I would especially like to highlight the excellent organization of the tour. Everything was arranged at the highest level: comfortable minibus transfers, well-located hotels, precise scheduling, and great attention to detail. I was particularly impressed that we traveled through Dagestan and Chechnya during the holy month of Ramadan, when Muslims observe strict fasting. Because of this, many cafés and restaurants were closed during the day, and even some grocery stores were not operating. Nevertheless, this did not prevent us from discovering the delicious Caucasian cuisine, hearty breakfasts and lunches were organized for us everywhere we went. I would also like to thank our guides for their courtesy, punctuality, and the fascinating way they introduced us to the culture and traditions of the peoples of the Caucasus.
