Day 1 - Privolzhsk and Ples

Ples is a bright star in the constellation of Volga cities. It is small, white-stone, on the top of the churches, surrounded by dense greenery. From Cathedral Mountain, from a bird's-eye view, a unique view of the beautiful Volga opens, you can admire this inescapable beauty for hours.
Ples is an open—air museum city. At every step there are signs of the historical past: narrow picturesque streets with buildings of the late XVIII — early XIX centuries, Cathedral Mountain, once favored by Prince Vasily, the son of Dmitry Donskoy, to build a fortress, there is also a monument to the founder of the fortress.
Levitan Mountain, which served as a favorite place for the great master of landscapes to work and walk. On the edge of the mountain stands the same wooden church of the XVI century, which the artist captured in his painting "Over eternal Rest".
The picturesque embankment gives the city a unique image: stone merchant mansions of 2-3 floors, preserved the architectural appearance of the embankment of the time of I.I. Levitan. The splendor of nature, the expanse of the Volga, silence and tranquility — this is what it is worth leaving the noisy city for at least a few hours and taking a break from the daily hustle and bustle.

Day 2 - Puchezh, Yuryevets and Reshma

This ancient Volga town is located on the shore of the Gorky reservoir. In the first half of the 19th century, Puchezh was a center for hiring boatmen (by the beginning of navigation, up to 6,000 boatmen gathered), as well as a pier on regular steamship routes along the Volga. A large linen production was also located here.
A visit to the Museum of Local Lore, which carefully preserves two stories of the city: the old city, flooded by the Gorky reservoir, and the new city, which is only 66 years old. The museum presents exhibits related to the history of the disappeared city: a mock-up of the old Puchezh, its photographs, household items, models of ancient river vessels.
Since ancient times, there was a scribbled fishery in Puchezh, which has reached our time. The traditions of the Puchezh embroiderers are continued by two enterprises — the Richelieu factory and Istoki.

Next, our way lies to the city of Yuryevets, the oldest city in the Ivanovo region. Yuryevets is an ancient Russian city founded in 1225 by the Grand Duke of Vladimir Yuri (George) Vsevolodovich. It was once a fortress city on the border of the Northeastern lands, then a major trading port on the Volga.
Among the famous Yuriev residents are Protopope Avvakum, architects the Vesnin brothers, directors Andrei Tarkovsky and the storyteller of our childhood Alexander Rowe.
Our guided tour of Yuryevets will begin from the observation deck, which offers a picturesque view of the Volga River. You will see the historical center of the city with churches of the XVII-XIX centuries, among which the bell tower of St. George the Victorious stands out, shopping malls.

Transfer to the village of Reshma.
The first mention of the village of Reshma dates back to the beginning of the XVI century, although excavations conducted nearby indicate a much earlier appearance of the settlement. The Makaryevsky monastery was founded near Reshma in the XV century.
Later, Reshma became a major trading settlement because the first merchant ships leaving the upper and lower reaches of the Volga after the liberation of the river from ice met precisely in the area of Reshma. This place was very suitable for holding a fair.
The fair was called Makaryevskaya after the name of the monastery monastery. At first, these lands belonged to Fyodor Ivanovich Belsky. During the reign of Tsarevna Sofia Alekseevna, Reshma was, among other awards, awarded for the second Crimean campaign to a fellow boyar, the royal seal and state embassy affairs to the guardian, Prince Vasily Golitsyn. Under Peter I, it became one of the royal possessions.
We will begin our acquaintance with this village with a visit to the Makariev-Reshem monastery. Everyone who comes here feels grace and peace, and the stunning views of Mother Volga will not leave anyone indifferent. The monastery is known as the Makaryevskaya desert. According to legend, Saint Macarius and his disciples dug a well under the mountain, the water from which is considered healing.
Walk to the holy spring (take a container for holy water with you). If you wish, you can go to the Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker. Are you imbued with a leisurely, monastic life? Now it's time to get interested in rural life.
You can admire the quiet, peaceful beauty of the Russian countryside.
Cape of Love is the highest point of view on the right bank of the Volga River in the Kineshma district. A cliff overgrown with pine forest, which offers an amazingly beautiful view of the bend of the great river, along which merchant ploughs sailed from the Varangians to the Greeks a long time ago, steamboats with red goods were sailing, gloomy boatmen dragged barges… There are many legends, creepy and romantic stories associated with this place.

Day 3 - Kineshma, Shuya and the "Cheese Factory behind the glass"

Kineshma was, although large and rich, but a rural settlement (sloboda). Kineshma received its urban status only in 1777 as part of Catherine's urban reforms; In addition to the Volga trade, the city also developed its own textile production.
The most beautiful place is considered to be the Volga embankment, along which we will certainly take a walk. A boat trip is available for an additional fee. The cost is 500 rubles (purchased in Kineshma).

Back in ancient times, people chose a hill on the left bank of the Teza River and, without further ado, named the settlement by the name "Shuya" — that's how the left side was called in ancient times. In the XIV century, it became the patrimony of one of the branches of the Suzdal princes, who received the nickname Shuisky.
The Princes Shuisky, brave and wayward, proud of their belonging to the Rurikovichi, played a significant role in Russian history.
