The entire Kaliningrad region in 7 days

Today is saturated with the smell of the sea and is almost entirely devoted to the history of the city of Baltiysk and its surroundings.

We will take a walk through the historical part of the city, where pre-war buildings have been preserved, and take a tour of the branch of the Central Naval Museum and Pillau Fortress.

After lunch, we will go to the Northern Pier, which juts 400 meters into the Baltic Sea, protecting the Baltic Strait from storms and sand. With the right luck, you can see a gray seal, warships of the Baltic Fleet, and even catch a real storm.

And next to the pier there is a gorgeous sandy beach. We are interested in it, first of all, the opportunity to collect amber: each of our 2nd group takes out a handful of amber pebbles per brother from here.

Route length: up to 150 km by car.

We have a lot of locks in the program today.:

• Labiau in Polessk is one of the best preserved castles in the region.;
• The louken in Saranskoye village is a school castle, which no longer looks like a fortification and has a completely peaceful function.;
• The Ragnit in the city of Neman is a vivid example of the wrecking treatment of castles during the Soviet era and their qualitative restoration during the "renaissance" of the last 5 years.;
• Taplaken in Talpaki village is a castle where people still live.

In addition to the castles, we will visit an interesting town — Sovetsk.

It's a very funny feeling when you stand on the city embankment, and on the other side of the river is another country — Lithuania. For residents of the city of Sovetsk, this is, of course, a familiar thing, but for Muscovites and Petersburgers this is a rarity.

Let's talk about the Tilsit world, Queen Louise and the famous Tilsit cheese. And in the neighboring Neman, let's look at the Mennonite church and remember about Ernst Thalmann.

The route today is long, with many beautiful landscapes and alleys typical of the Kaliningrad region landscape.

Route length: up to 270 km by car.

The Baltic spit is the sister of the Curonian Spit, but it is less well—known and has a much smaller number of tourists, especially during the "off-season".

We will cross here by ferry from Baltiysk to explore:

• German Notif hydroaerodrome (some buildings and hangars + runways of the Soviet period have been preserved);
• the exposition of the small museum "Old Lunette";
• bunkers of a German artillery battery sunk into the dunes;
• ruins of the Western Fort, which was eaten by the sea;
• the southern pier of the Baltic Strait.

The spit is an amazing place: not only does the Kaliningrad Region (so far) not have a land border with the rest of Russia, but the spit is also separated from this semi—island by a strait. In general, the atmosphere here is simply indescribable.

And off we go again!

We are waiting for the Teutonic Waldau Castle with a simple but cozy museum, as well as Gvardeysk and Tapiau Castle, where a correctional colony was located until recently.

By the way, nearby is the 1st lock of the Mazur Canal, a pre‑war hydraulic engineering structure that is now abandoned.

Further — more! We will go to Pravdinsk for lunch, where we will climb the tallest building in the Kaliningrad region — the church bell tower in the city center: from here you can enjoy wonderful views of the surrounding area.

We will get acquainted with the features of modern restoration in the town of Zheleznodorozhny: it doesn't seem to be bad, but the feeling of the "Potemkin village" does not leave.

Finally, let's take a look at Bagrationovsk, where we are interested in the ruins of the Forburg of the Preussisch-Eylau castle, which have been actively rebuilt and restored over the past two years.

We will return to Kaliningrad late in the evening!

Torture dungeons, a luxurious cheese factory and a hall with medieval armor that you can try on are a strange combination of attractions on the territory of one dilapidated Shaaken castle. However, everything is strange here, but that's why it's interesting.

After the story, let's get into culture — we'll stop by Zelenogradsk for lunch, and then we'll go away from the hiking trails to Cape Taran with its huge almost 50-meter cliff.

And also to the "wild" beaches near Yantarnoye, where you can search for amber and sit in solitude on the shore, watching the sun set.

The route length is up to 250 km by car.

On the final day of the tour, we will go to the sea again — to the Curonian Spit.

The rules are strict, admission is paid, there are many tourists, but the iconic places of the Kaliningrad region are still worth visiting: the Dancing Forest, the Efa dune and the Lake Swan eco-trail are the main objects of our interest.

We will leave the hotel already "with our suitcases", so we will finish in the city center around 18:00, we will finally sit in one of the cozy restaurants in Kaliningrad and say goodbye.
