Itinerary

Day 1 - Meeting and transfer to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky
10:00 Meeting of the participants at the airport of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.
Transfer to the city.
We stay in a rented apartment (in a hotel), get acquainted with the city, which is located on the shore of Avacha Bay — the main transport "gate" of the Kamchatka Territory.
Meals in the city are paid separately.

Day 2 - The road to the beginning of the route
In the morning, we take a regular bus to the village of Kozyrevsk.
The journey will take all day.
We will make several stops on the way, and in the evening we will be taken by truck to the Kopyto volcanic station.
We cook dinner on site, spend the night in tents.

Day 3 - The beginning of the walking route
We begin the walking part of the route.
We go through a series of descents and ascents towards the Studenaya River.
We leave in the canyon area and move along the riverbed.
Tolbachik volcano is visible directly ahead.
We make a stop for lunch on the way.
We walk a couple of kilometers from the riverbed towards the spring, replenish water supplies and stop for the night.
Day 4 - The way to the Bogdanovich Glacier
After breakfast, we move to the Bogdanovich Glacier, one of the largest in Russia.
The first few kilometers we have to walk through the hilly tundra, and then through the lava fields and moraine.
The terrain is difficult to move: descents alternate with ascents, the slag is heavily saturated with water in places and has already turned into a swamp.
After that, we go out to a stormy stream flowing from the glacier, and continue along its bed to the place where it went under the glacier, and then we go back to the slag hills.
There are lakes between the slag hills. We'll spend the night at one of them.
Day 5 - The way to the Bogdanovich Glacier
We continue moving in the direction of the Bogdanovich glacier.
There is still snow at about 2000 m in July, so the trail begins at 2200-2300 meters.
On this day, we plan to walk to the camp located at an altitude of 2700.
Here we set up a camp and stay overnight.
Day 6 - Volcanologists Pass
We begin to move towards the Volcanologists Pass (1B, 3300 meters), which is a wide plateau.
There is a lot of snow along the way, cracks and glacial faults.
The transition, which we make in bundles, takes about 7-8 hours.
At night, the air temperature usually drops to -5...-10 degrees at this altitude.
Day 7 - Acclimatization output
Camp on the Volcanologists pass (3300 meters).
Acclimatization output is up to 4000 m.
Day 8 - Climbing the Klyuchevskaya Sopka volcano
Climbing the Klyuchevskaya Sopka volcano (2A, 4850 meters).
The assault begins at 2-3 o'clock in the morning.
We have to overcome a significant climb.
The elevation difference is about the same as on Elbrus. The altitude is lower, but due to the more northern latitudes, the temperature regime is the same.
The ascent takes 8-10 hours and is a fairly monotonous ascent along snowy, firn and rocky-talus slopes of medium steepness.
Behind the climbers, the extinct stratovolcano Kamen (4585 meters), the second highest volcano in Kamchatka, rises powerfully.
We will make the descent to the Volcanologists pass on the way up.

Day 9 - Reserve day
A reserve day in case of bad weather.
Day 10 - Descent from the Volcanologists Pass
Today we are going to descend from the Volcanologists pass.
We are moving in a northerly direction to the volcanologists' field station.
Day 11 - Transfer to the volcanologists field station, transfer to the village. Keys
Today we are making the transition to the field station of volcanologists "Apakhonchich" and then moving to the village of Klyuchi, based on the site of the large Cossack prison Nizhnekamchatsk and located at the foot of Klyuchevskaya Sopka on the Kamchatka River.
We stay in the house, relax in the sauna, have dinner.
Day 12 - Transfer to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky
Transfer by bus from the village of Klyuchi to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.
The journey takes 8-9 hours.
We are staying in a rented apartment in the city center (hotel).
Day 13 - Departure
Transfer to the airport. Flight home. We say goodbye to Kamchatka and promise to come back again!

The difficulty category of the route is 2A, but the approach and descent are not the easiest, and the height of 4850 meters above sea level makes itself felt.

Clothing and shoes:

sneakers, slates, trekking boots;
insulated boots for the assault;
gaiters or shoe covers with galoshes;
socks: 2-3 pairs of cotton, 1-2 pairs of wool or insulated;
thermal underwear top + bottom;
